Problem 1:
For ages, I’ve been able to use the Aeliron and the elevators to move around the runway/taxiways in most jet’s except maybe the f22, until recently, I have just lost all control of the aircraft on the runway, no amount of stick will cause the plane to move left or right whatsoever, only at high speeds it may tilt the aircraft to the side or down but that’s it. The only way I can control the aircraft is with the rudder now, and the breaks.
I’ve checked assistance options and all sorts and nothing has made any difference, same for flight model.
Problem 2: In the air. There’s always been issues with fast jets and high G maneuvers, but generally it’s been possible to fly a fair bit without any wobbles/glitches/random un expected stalls, but the past two weeks and this isn’t just me whos experienced this, I cannot even control the plane beyond the occasional twitch that turns it slightly right or left… Once it’s off the runway, it’s out of my control, does whatever it wants, goes insane and crashes…
Problem 3: Fuel and centre of gravity settings have been not working particularly well or consistently.
Problem 4: In the rare cases I’ve gotten to take off okay, and fly around, it doesn’t take long before the plane loses temporary control or wobbles all over the place and defies physics, often ending up with a crash. This has happened a LOT more in the last two weeks than ever.
For context and to save you giving me advice that won’t help, I am very experienced flying in this game, I’ve been practicing acrobatics for 2 years + and have done many successful maneuvers and I’m very precise and can consistently do a 360 roll and stop exactly level, so it’s not a problem with my skill, or my experience.
I was whipping around New York bridges in the F/A-18 yesterday. Takeoff and landing were ok, flight model was fine, other than I landed at an airport with a short runway and had a bit of an excursion
Try doing any rolls in it, or repeated rolls or a corkscrew roll (look it up) or a left turn or right turn at 300kts or so. It will eventually lose control unrealistically
There are two. One turns it on, one allows you to set it to max turning radius.
On planes like the F/A-18, you will see NWS show up in the HUD to let you know what it’s configured for.
There is also a NWS button on the fight stick in the F/A-18 virtual cockpit, but it’s tough to access because it’s on the front of the stick and you can’t see it from the default pilot location.
Rest assured, the feature works so if you try it out and experiment, you’ll figure it out.
Okay, strange, I havent even seen that option before, I’ve not touched it before, and I’ve not updated in a while, and yet suddenly this week it just stopped working? I just cannot control the steering anymore, yet I could 5 days ago
Zero reason an elevator Up and down should ever make you turn left or right.
You can wiggle that elevator up and down all you want, your still not a fish, and will never ever turn.
Zero reason a Aeliron (wings) should ever make you turn on the ground. Unless you’re looking to roll the aircraft on its belly.
The Rudder is the part that sticks up above the elevator, so this Rudder can steer you and so can nose wheel steering.
I guess you have never heard of the Ercoupe 415😃
That aircraft actually did have a linkage between the aileron controls and the nose wheel steering.
Most were converted to regular rudder linkage, as you are correctly pointing out, the usual way to steer an aircraft on the ground.
There are of course other options, such as free castering wheels and differential braking or in a few cases differential power and brakes.
In older versions of the Sim you could turn on autocoordination and it would also steer on the ground with aileron. Maybe that is what the OP used to have.
Nope but have now… That thing is adorable!
I want!
Also had no idea such a setting existed. Honestly I’m down to have it back for accessibility. Even with one foot or arm/hand everyone should be included.
Please don’t take my comments as mean or condescending. Everyone gave great advice on how to set Nose wheel steering. I was just so confused.
Well there is a very slight force applied to the aircraft by a deflected aileron surface. But at the very low speed you should be using to taxi an aircraft, it would have little to no effect on the aircraft.
What you do in real life is use control deflections to counter any possible lifting forces the aircraft may experience due to winds.
That is why you may see an aircraft, usually the smaller ones, taxi with control surfaces deflected one way or another. But that is NOT to steer the aircraft but to keep it on the ground with all three wheels.
