Make Cloud Streaming Optional -MSFS 2024

I think there might be a tipping point coming up where the hardcore sim pilot will make the switch to xplane.

I fly there every once in awhile already, they keep improving stuff on a stable basis.

That is not how it works

Why then would there be Official2020 and Official2024 folders in the Packages?

When did MS/Asobo ever say there would NOT be the option to store content on your PC ?

With the store not yet ONLINE, it makes sense that that MIGHT be not working yet !!

I am still hoping they just have to sort out the bugs & get it working. and correct stuff like EVERYTHING being encrypted .

BTW: Whatever happened to the Play mode, where one played effectively with a web Browser, and it ALL get streamed form a MS Game Server. actually running the game, so for example, you could play MSFS on your Phone or Tablet ?

Never tried it – Is it still an option for 2020, and will it be (or is it already) an option for 2024 ?

Just to add to the confustion about Streaming

How do you know? Unless you work for Asobo, you’re speculating. The fact that the beta (see my screenshot above) had the option for manual cache proves you are wrong. Stop spreading false info. They chose to stream data because they thought the smaller package and “faster loading times” would be a big selling point. They’ve already said they’re going to give the option soon to switch from cloud streaming to local streaming for marketplace purchases, so it’s just as easy for them to re-implement local streaming of other data.

When its possible to cache the world data, then it can be done also with aircraft and airports data. The installation procedure could install files into the cache.

Aside from that 2024 also has a community folder from which aircraft or scenery can be loaded. So why shouldn’t it work?

The server is improving and I can now do free flights without so many errors. The textures are still poor and they load slowly, they flicker and blur, but it lets it fly sometimes in fits and starts. I agree with a local download and if it is 300 GB or 500 GB it would be Genail! so there wouldn’t be any more problems

Because THE GAME is on the cloud, IT IS NOT on your PC, it was DESIGNED to be on the cloud and not installed on the PC

PLEASE! Asobo! Please! I don’t care if MSFS is 50GB or 500GB. BUT I can’t stream all day

Manuel cache like MSFS 2020 is the way to go.
And, You should make downloading the earth like in MSFS 2020, an optional download

Can’t wait to see what they say on Wednesday.
It will probably be like, Oh yeah, we thought about that, but that’s what msfs, 2024 is all about.
Super annoying.

Sell the game on a 4Tb external.
They are ÂŁ100.
The entire package for ÂŁ200.

Game links to MS on startup. Scans for updates.

Game runs entirely local.
Multiplayer facility.

That has been thought about here.

Bro just stop, you’re embarrassing yourself.

The only thing I’d say needed to be streamed were the world updates. Those took up a huge amount of storage. At least to me it seemed like they did.

The aircraft and the basic offline scenery really need to be saved to our devices.

The hand-modeled airports should also be accessible offline.

What they should have done is made the streaming a new optional feature where everything we wanted streamed we could set it to be streamed.

Granted just needing to download a 20GB base program then only needing to stream everything else was nice to start out with but having it locked that way isn’t going to fly long term.

Think, I still like to fire up FSX once and a while. Its online services are long gone but it still works. You can still finish flights in it. What’s going to happen to FS24 or FS20 a decade from now when its not supported anymore?

Once the “Live Service Game” period ends that’s going to be it. Your not going to able to access all the aircraft and airports you purchased and in the case of FS24, there isn’t going to be an easy option for the devs to just set it to offline mode since FS24 doesn’t even have offline scenery.

I think the community has spoken on this topic. I think as a company you should want the community to have access to your sim anywhere and/or anytime, just to have continuous engagement in your sim. People should not have to wait until they get home to have access to your sim because it takes up too much data for hotspot. What if I’m in my hotel room and have an hour to spare for training or just to past time. Let the community choose which route they want to take with the money they paid. This is the best simulation and career mode in aviation at this time. Let’s build on top of this and not take anything away from the community and let’s expand on this. It’s so close to being the G.O.A.T.
I want to give a shoutout to the Dev team, 3rd party Dev teams and This community. Let’s keep this creation moving forward!!!

The comments that 100% is streamed and it will always fail are pessimistic or not true.

There are base objects in the install folders, about 10GB. Entire airports have been streamed as one lump.

The Library has Installed and Not Installed filters, as well as Streamed and Not Streamed. Clearly the design allows for objects to be installed permanently.

Those options have been disabled until the Marketplace is sorted out (Jan 2025 is my estimate).

Seb briefly mentioned “force download” in a video. I think translation makes it a fuzzy comment, ‘force’ probably meant controlled by the user, aka Install.

Downloading airports is the low hanging fruit. Download start and finish airports, so all smooth for take off and landing, at height low res textures are ok and will stay in the cache.

Time will tell. I think there is evidence the glass is half full.

We will see an update the next few days, so stay positive.

I just flew the Albatross G111. Every time I switched to the outside perspective and then back into the cockpit, I had to do wait 30 seconds until the instruments have been loaded again. :pensive:
How can one come up with the idea to develop something like this?

Yep for me Xplane is the big winner now

Voted! We need to have the aircraft at the bare MINIMUM able to be saved permanently to our computers!
