so I thought I’d enter a new request. Low priority, but I would really like to be forced to choose my starting point rather than having the simulator automatically default to a runway for me. The scenario that regularly happens to me is that I go to the World Map menu, load a flight from SimBrief (or create my own flight plan), but forget that I need to specify starting at a gate (because I want to start cold and dark) before I hit fly. So then I have to wait to return to the main menu and then wait again to return to my flight after making the change. Sometimes this takes multiple tries if I inadvertently reset the flight instead of going to main menu. It is pretty painful…
It would be great to be forced to choose a starting point, rather than have it default to a runway. The existing behavior is probably fine (and appreciated) by many users, so I’d like to see this as a settable option that I could enable.
I dunno about you, but I never click on the departing airport. I always rotate the earth with my mouse, then zoom in to the airport that I want to bring up the gate dots, then select the gate directly using the dots. So I never forget.
I do the same to my destination airport as well. Zoom in to bring up the dots, then select the destination gate as arrival. That way the ATC will assign me that same gate when I land.
But I don’t use simbrief and I build my flight plan directly in the world map every time. I don’t save nor load flight plans.
Can you assign the gate into the simbrief flight plan?
Unfortunately no–at least not that I’ve found. I usually grab it from the drop down after loading the flight plan, though sometimes I zoom in depending on the airport. Except when I forget…
Not only can you NOT choose a Gate from Simbrief, but for me and some others, after LOADing of the Simbrief plan, if you then choose a gate, it will alter the flight plan all on it’s own! Crazy!
A minor work around for me is to first create a VFR Direct plan, choose my Departure and Arrival airports from the world map page, select a Departure Gate. I then load the Simbrief plan and hit FLY NOW before the sim decides to change something…
After forgetting to select a departure gate (if that is so import), one would think that a Sim Pilot would learn to do so, after the the repeated inconvenience of having to go back to the world map.
Rather than have the some arbitrary rules forced on everyone, why not put together a personal check list.
