Well, it’s not necessary. but you have to realise that the sim is coded to be used with basic hardware at the minimum. A Keyboard and Mouse as a primary hardware that everyone will have. And hardware like a consumer based sidestick and throttle quadrant comes in second due to the various different types and different ways of doing things. Then you have the extreme niche end of the spectrum for enthusiasts who are building a realistic and accurate home cockpit setup with specialised hardware.
The more detailed the hardware setup, the more niche and complex it is. And it doesn’t make sense to spend thousands of hours coding something which costs a lot of money to do just so that it can satisfy 10 people with those setup.
Besides, Managed/Selected function is Airbus specific. Which is an even niche aspect in flight simulations given that flying GA can make up for the majority of flight simmers. Then you have Boeing flight simmers which makes up the majority of airliner flight simmers that doesn’t have managed/selected function anyway. So the more you think about it, the more specific those functions need to be, the smaller the number of users. Just because you use it regularly, doesn’t mean other people do.
So while it is nice to have a built-in function to them. You can’t make “everyone happy”. So if these middleware are the only way that we can do these extra things. Then we have to live with it. You can open a zendesk ticket, but I can bet you that nobody is reading them unless it is a game-breaking bug. So don’t hold your breath waiting for a response that may never come.
