Manual Cache After UK Update

Realizing the development team has acknowledged that the manual cache feature has been essentially crippled by the latest UK update, it is still a bit disconcerting that a primary feature has been essentially declared non-functional. I’m glad to read that it is “being investigated;” however, the manual cache feature played into my plans as I purchased a new pc to run Microsoft Flight Simulator (2tb ssd and 2 tb hdd). ((Correction reflected))

My point is this—please understand there are customers that are waiting for you to fix what broke, and please make it a priority to restore this feature. While you are at it, might it be possible to improve the functionality of it? I was just starting to learn how to make it work when the update occurred.

For the most part, manual cache is great on saving you data if you fly the same airspace/path regularly, but that’s about it. The performance of the sim is still subject to the vagaries of all your other settings.

Many thanks for your comment. I have seen this observation made in some of the other threads. Yet, I do believe that MSFS team did advertise that the manual cache feature would enable users to fly offline, so that users would not be required to have high speed internet connections in order to stream visual content. Which is exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps I will need to go back and verify what I had seen. Better yet, MSFS can simply fix the manual cache that became non-functional from the last update. Because, fact is, it was indeed working for me until the UK update.

I think you mean TB instead of GB?

Seb in one of the recent Dev Q&As confirmed all it does is cache the HTTP pull commands you’d get during streaming. That’s it.

Yes, thanks for correcting. Hard to keep up when my personal computing began with a 128 kb hard drive. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Haha, you’re right…

If they are saying that now, several months into production and many others like me who (mis?) understood manual cache as a selling point, it remains true that I was able to use it just as I understood it could be used. Also, the fact remains that this feature up till now, was lost during the latest update. I simply wanted to give voice to myself and any others who do not want the developers to put this matter on a back burner. Please fix what was broken. That was my concern. Regardless of what all manual cache can be used for. I was using it ok until now.

What sense does this should make?
Does manual cache (when working) does not cache any data?

Agreed. I do not believe this very complex caching method was put into the flightsim merely to speed up the computer’s ability to deal with streaming. I believe it was originally advertised to cache data while online, in order to fly offline, or to fly when there is a connection insufficient to live stream.
