March 2, 2023 Development Update Discussion

And apparently their contract for NavBlue to provide charts has fallen through, and they do not have any plans to do this natively (I saw a reference to “Charts - Not Planned”) somewhere.

Your feeling would be correct. They have been repeating this over and over since day one. As @skypilotYTS said, they have a contract with MeteoBlue to do this, and, as you can see from their discussions in every Dev Q&A, the hooks into letting people get in and manipulate this functionality would be wayyyyy too complex to allow other people to do it, not to mention all the IP that would be exposed from Asobo and MeteoBlue code.

Unfortunately, people are confusing two very different subjects here. Since day one they have directly said they will never consider allowing other third party companies to CONTROL the weather.

What they agreed to was they will open up access for third parties to interrogate what the weather is through some interface or variables so things like weather radar can work properly, and perhaps allow better integration for flight planning software to see what the weather is along a route. When they release the first vestiges of this functionality, I don’t think they have a complete plan for it yet.
