Marketplace: Clearly BOTTED Reviews - A closer look at MScenery's reviews

Yes, I like that idea of users flagging products - with a brief explanation of the issue. You are right, they then don’t have to get staff to monitor the MP.

But it could be misused.

Yes it could but the same rule could apply to simmers - abuse it and you will be blocked!

Besides botted reviews, the other problem here is the definition of a bad product. I remember years ago when my nephew got into 2020. He purchased anything related to military because it was a fighter plane and couldn’t have cared less whether it was modeled correctly. When I stood over his shoulder and watched him fly, I saw that the cockpits were terribly modeled, but he was happy. I’m guessing that others feel the same way, and they have the right to buy whatever mods they want.

What we really need is the ability to add written reviews to these mods. You may hate that the plane doesn’t handle wind accurately, but someone else may not care about that at all. Or maybe you want a cabin modeled but someone else is fine without it.

With written reviews, we could make up our own minds and know why the mod was rated accordingly, high or low. Now the reality is that we’ve been asking for this since 2020, and since MS is making money on these purchases, I see no incentive for them to act.

I only buy 3rd party aircraft and scenery/airports.

Filters are still useful in that case.

I noticed this recently. It seems everything has 4 star + ratings now.
They should just remove the ratings system completely, as it’s effectively just noise & completely meaningless.

What’s the point of filters when the whole ratings system is irrelevant?
Just let people test anything they want, make their own choice based on personal testing.
Let the aircraft devs fill in the level of fidelity on a standard description template and let users decide themselves if it meets their toy plane standard for however they use the sim.

The botted reviews are the issue here which also highlights the fakery and misleadingness of entire situation.

It might be by design, but by exposing fake reviews you have grounds for more action. Either comments on reviews or a filter to remove them. Must be acted upon

With the botting, they lost any standing they had.

Boot ‘em.

At this port the Marketplace is spammed by MScenery up to a point that you have to look for real product by other developers among the scams being sold by MScenery. No wonder some developers stay away from the in game Marketplace.

Agree they take up most of the first page where all the promos and trending are. Even when there is a mass MP sale on the first page they own all of the “sale” tiles until you drill into it, then they make up the first page of tiles and you need to sort it to find someone else. Insanity given we all know what’s going on

Looks like the appropriate department does not see any issue here.
At least not for the last 6 Weeks. I would guess that should be enough time to take steps in case something is against the rules.

Does it make sense to further report on this issue?

I don’t know? Jorg was disappointed with the state of the MP, he said as much BUT I suppose what he is disappointed with might not be what we are cross about.

There is just soooo much to fix in the sim right now that the state of the MP is least of their money earning concerns.

Since we now have insight into their marketing strategy, which is pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap to maximise profits, I doubt anything will be done!

I agree, my point was more in case there is some wrong behaviour against Terms&Conditions of the Marketplace to the disadvantage of the paying customer, I would expect immediate action.
Otherwise I would be concerned if f.e. fraudulent actions (I am not saying this is the case here!) would not result in immediate action.

Since there are no actions taken, it must be fine with Terms&Conditions and therefor your point gets somehow proven.
Maybe we need to see this in a different way:

:joy: :joy: at least we have each other to laugh about it :joy:

I know it’s been a while on this but wanted to note that some kind of “Report This Addon” would just mean someone is more likely to go review it eventually – it doesn’t specify any SLA on reviewing it or what the threshold before a review is done might be. And since you have to be logged in and have purchased the item to rate (and probably to report) it that would cut out a lot of noise. I wouldn’t buy a single one of their items even to report it but users who feel scammed should be able to.

There is no intention here that 1 report = auto-banned or anything. And such systems usually have thresholds that can be tweaked (like we reviewed this already, raise the threshold a lot, keyword filters, repeat-reporter filters, etc). These are common moderation tools in place in 1000s of marketplaces… this isn’t unexplored territory. Done right it allows the team to focus on the problems while allowing the community to help raise real alarms. Yes, concerted efforts can create noise for the review team but the alternative is to ignore everything and that is already creating harm within the community so some balance has to be struck.

I guess in the meantime we all have to subscribe to swiss001 and watch for the reviews

Just been into the MP to rate my new purchase and what do I see when I filter for “Best Rating”. Is MS serious!! :man_shrugging: :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

And again a new tactic!

Now Enhanced addon, not Professional

Really waiting how MS will help self with this problem. They have simply say contract with some provision as I see so I can imagine they will enable refunds to all of us and also return all provisions to dev mentioned here  or maybe judge with this dev? Now you can answer yourself dear custommers…

Yes, “ENHANCED” junk! You just got to laugh at the deviousness! All the AI pics, the reviews at 143, 142 and 141 - did the same 143 folks buy this :joy: :man_shrugging:

Yeah I took notice this week in particular when the BS “A350 Enhanced” dropped. The “Top Rated” section is all MScenery today. Absolutely gross. If this has to get the attention of Asha Sharma, then so be it.

They’re running amuck with the rating system and nothing is happening. I know MS is probably looking into it, but it’s moving at a snails pace when it should be a priority. If Jorg wants the best sim ever, the marketplace should reflect that instead of being a cesspool. The people that don’t know, think MS is vetting everything as quality product… The ones that do know, know the marketplace is mostly a steaming pile with only a few nuggets of gold.

MS is openly letting sellers scam customers via a broken system they produced. Period. I’m not going full conspiracy to the point where I think MS and MScenery is the same, or they’re looking the other way for the money. In all honesty, I don’t think they’re selling that much even with this tactic. If this loophole is fixed, I think it could not only benefit the customers but also the support team handling refunds if I’m being honest.

The only progress I sort of noticed is that the dev update marketplace weirdly omitted all the new mscenery stuff, but… they’re still able to sell falsely rated products with AI photos… There was other trash this week, a new 737 that didn’t cook the ratings and is sitting <2 stars. If there’s not going to be any curation to this stuff, then yeah let the (truthful) ratings dictate who buys what, but fix the ■■■■ system to let that happen for everyone on there!!

I buy a lot for the sim… but in 2024, I haven’t spent a dime in the marketplace yet. There are some exclusives I wouldn’t mind getting, but week after week, I’m reminded why I don’t. I know the MP is what makes the world go around for MS/Asobo to keep this sim going, but if people are gonna buy trash, let them, just don’t let devs scam them further with ratings they should have ZERO control over.
