And getting upgrades after the initial purchase is a joke too. Standard edition with premium deluxe upgrade costs $145 total, while premium deluxe on its own is $120?!

Another missed opportunity to take my money Microsoft/Asobo. Could just charge the 60 for the upgrade and you would have made a second sale from me today. Smh

Check back in the months to come if the current price hasn’t soured everyone. If the sales don’t meet expectations, a price drop or sale wouldn’t surprise me.

Heck, I could even see getting a good deal just buying the $120 version, if that goes on a decent sale, even though it would mean buying the base program twice for many people.

I agree with what you say here. They need to up their game quality wise and I think they will do that in the future.

I got all their GB True Earth for Xplane and despite a small hit on fps it was a step up from default and all done at a great price. As you say this is not needed for FS 2020 and to remain relevant, which I believe they will, they will probably concentrate on Airports and Landmark Sceneries around the world. I think there is massive scope for them here. The world is a big place!

Whilst, I agree that their first offering wasn’t really up to par, like all sensible companies they realised their mistake and have attempted to correct matters with an updated product. I think they deserve some credit for that. Hopefully lessons have now been learnt. Full disclosure though here, I didn’t buy London Landmarks so I can’t really comment on its updated quality. I will look at updated reviews and decide on those.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do for FS 2020 in the future. Their prices are usually fair. If the product reviews are not great then i’ll not buy. If the reviews are good then I probably will.

You have completely misunderstood the purpose of a pretty standard marketing practise. You have a product with three tiers, and the idea is to get as many people to pay for those higher tiers, the incentive to do so, other than what you get, is to make the upgrade price ever so slightly more expensive than just buying the higher tier outright.

This is a very common practise, and not restricted to MS/Asobo.

Perhaps the difference of 120 to 145 for the full premium deluxe upgrade is able to be overlooked for some/ many people. Not me. But to each their own.

However, charging 99.99 extra for only the 5 aircraft and 5 airports of the premium deluxe is unacceptable. That option shouldn’t even exist.

I think it’s an opportunity for orbx to really focus on the important buildings around an airport area, say those where photogrammetry didn’t do too well, and let the default autogen deal with the ordinary buildings.

:open_mouth: How could MS select and fearure it in the ingame marketplace? Isn’t there any kind of quality test?

Everyone was given the same choice: buy the tier you want, that gives you access to the planes/scenery you want outright, or buy Standard and pay the upgrade penalty later on.

Upgrade penalties lead than a month from release seems absurd to me
but like I’ve said in other posts, I will just save the money and put it towards the inevitable purchase of 3rd party aircraft that I already know I will be more satisfied with.

And to be clear, the only upgrade I consider a penalty is the $85 premium deluxe. The $100 option is egregious and predatory, nothing anyone says will prove otherwise.

This guy is everywhere and its so annoying.
Acts like he is the best 3rd party developer after just doing some simple fixes no one cares of while flying

Better than the handcraftet ones.

Not sure why you’re surprised. They did explicitly mention before the sim was even released that the most cost-effective way to purchase the sim is to purchase the tier you want to use, because if you purchase a lower tier and plan to upgrade later, you’ll be charged more for that. This was stated clearly in the FAQ’s as well.

Yes, maybe that too.

I don’t remember seeing that in the faq
but again, the $85 is irritating, not surprising.

The surprising part is asking $100 for half the content of the $85 upgrade.

I understand and acknowledge your point regarding the pricing structure. The upgrade price does seem a bit stiff.

However, I think we knew that there would be a penalty if we bought Standard and then upgraded later to Premium. And I think they may also have acknowledged at the time that the upgrade path would prove more expensive overall.

It was a bit of a gamble at the time not knowing the upgrade prices but we were all in the same boat. Anybody who wanted to play ultra safe didn’t have to pre purchase the sim but could have waited until the upgrade prices were announced.

I myself was unsure at the time which version to go for. I eventually decided on going Premium because I felt it would be some time before decent payware AC came out. I am happy with my decision but that could easily have been a bad one since I also didn’t wait to see the upgrade prices. Having decided to pay a higher price I don’t think that I would have got a refund if I felt that i’d made a bad decision. It works both ways. Decide, gamble and buy or play safe and wait. Fair choice really.

In all honesty, I don’t think we have too many grounds here for complaint. If we wanted to know the upgrade prices we could have waited a bit longer before buying the sim.

They were there from day 1, for the reasons I already stated.

You make a conscious choice as an educated consumer, or you do not. Your judgement on the value of that transaction is your choice, and yours alone.

I opted to buy the Premium Deluxe edition outright, because I am aware of the “upgrade penalty” post-purchase. It has always been a thing, will always be a thing.

You’ll find if you look at pretty much any game that has a tiered pricing model, that the upgrade later option is almost always more expensive, to varying degrees. This has been no secret.

The classic examples being “Deluxe” editions, where you get a whole pile of DLC in one bundle, but buying them later, perhaps individually, works out more expensive. It might only a be a few quid, or it might be a lot more. But the prices are there, and you make your choice.

I already concede that I missed/or forgot about the faq section taking about future upgrades costing more.

But since when does the tier with half of the content cost more than premium deluxe? How is that reasonable? Do you not understand that is backwards?

Tiers, whether purchased outright or later have always been more content=higher price. Not less content=higher price.

Either way, as I already said, I’m saving my money for 3rd party stuff. And if it takes forever, I can always fly in xplane while I wait.

Then you’ll loose the windscreen effects
