May 28 MSFS does not start, tries to run update

When tried to open MSFS, does not open takes Microsoft store. Downloads and updates show Gaming Services, Digital ownership, and MSFS Prem Deluxe. None of these will update. Indicates error. No error code. MSFS worked fine yesterday 5/27.

similar issue, cannot get it to open or do anything. Garbage!

On my system, the Microsoft Store update happened in the background without telling me. So it was already updated when I opened the Store. You can tell this happened by clicking on the three dots at the top right corner of the Store app, and your Microsoft Flight Simulator should say it was last modified on 5/25/2021. If it does, the Store portion is updated already.

If it won’t install the update, I’d log out of your Microsoft Store account, and log out of the XBox Live app, reboot, then log back into your user account in both apps before you start MSFS. Maybe that will kick things off for you?

The Deluxe and Premium apps never update. Only the main base version updates in the Store.

Logged out of MS store and Xbox. When trying to open MSFS the screen immediately goes to MS store. MSFS is Vee 1.16.2.0.

Appears to have an issue with Digital Ownership

Below solution solved my problem. Gaming services app installed with error, starting msfs kept bringing me to the ms store → gaming servicesc app installing error.

So:

Open Registry Editor

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SYSTEM → CurrentControlSet → Services

Remove the GamingServices and GamingServices.Net

Restart Computer

Go to your Windows Store → 3-dot-menu → Downloads and Updates → Check updates

Gaming Services should install now without issue.

Double check by rebooting and going back to Windows Store and trying to Get Updates again - you should be Up to date.

Removed as requested. Gaming services while updating still shows error.

Step 6

one of the steps talk about reset , do NOT do this on your MSFS , if you do then you be downloading everything from scratch

Press Win+R, enter “wsreset.exe” and press Enter.
This resets the state of the windows store, you’ll not lose anything.
This helped me a few months ago when the store didn’t want to update the gaming services.

I have tried all of these steps including the ones on zen desk. Gaming Services still shows error when updating. There is no error code. It downloads the. When installing line goes most of the way then stops and indicates error.

Just tried Regedit and deleted gaming services. It worked. Updated perfectly. MSFS runs again. Thank you

The error code is in light grey letters directly below the update progress bar that fails. I suppose it ended with a 26, that‘s exactly the problem that is to be resolved in the regedit

Seriously, so many people have that problem, I have no idea how someone with little computer experience should be able to resolve it.

This fix worked for me . Thank you

Even if this works we shouldn’t be having to edit the registry to make the sim run.

Edit: It did work, thank you.

Hi thanks for this solution.

I did what you said I think. I right clicked on both gaming services and hit delete is this how you remove them ?

But still not loading.

Hi,

I done the above. I deleted gaming services and gaming services.net

I couldn’t get in. I uninstalled the game and now I’m trying to reinstall and when I hit the Microsoft store install button nothing is happening. One problem after another.

Can anyone help me out here please ?

Thanks for this solution! Worked fine for me.

This is NOT a solution - it is a temporary hack to get MSFS working in the short term. Bypassing Gaming Services may cause serious issues further down the line. If using this method, I would heavily advise that you reverse the registry changes when the Gaming Services issue is TRULY resolved.

Edit:
This is not to berate anyone on here. I know everyone is trying their best to get people up and running as quickly as possible but labelling something as a SOLUTION is this case is misleading.
