I realise I only play games I can sandbox with. Like preferring Train Simulator to TrainSim World. If I want to drive a German locomotive on a Californian route then I should be allowed to do so.
And… That’s what I do in MSFS2020. I just fly around looking at the scenery. So, I aren’t all bothered about career modes and all that stuff. From what I am hearing, 2024 does flying and scenery extremely well ! So maybe it’s for me after all despite all the bugs, which won’t affect me ?
msfs-2024
I think I am going to. And I won’t complain.
I think you will, just maybe not on this forum!
are you on pc or xbox? If pc what are your specs?
leaving all the known issues aside for a moment
the way i see it, if you do bush flying (light a/c out on remote areas) and land next to a river, 2024 is doing pretty well for that purpose
if your thing is airliner flights, 2020 is better at the moment
That’s a good way of putting it, I think. For now. Once the bugs are fixed, FS2024 will be the better sim for both types of flying.
Come back in 3 years
If you are planning on doing just free flights you should be okay. It’s all I do and in the 59 flights I’ve now flown since buying FS24, I’ve had only one CTD.
I occasionally have grass on taxiways and aprons on some third party airports purchased back on FS20. But other than that I’ve had no issues.
If you want to play career mode you may find yourself having issues, though probably not as bad as some of the exaggerated reports I’ve seen here.
If you’re playing on PC why not get one month gamepass to try the game for no additional cost?
Concur. FS2024 has changed a lot since November esp for my VR flights.
It could be better and much room for improvement yet, but I find it emminently playable. Unlike clunk time november, when it took three or four attempts to get in a plane and actually fly.
I have to comment that my PC is built specifically for flight simulation and little else. Apart from stuff like browsers and a few programs, it has zero unwanted bloatware running in the background.
Even WMR has to be started manually by switching my reverb off and back on with the cable power box.
I think a lot of problems are caused by unecessary bloatware running round the back. Antivirus and " PC optimiser" type stuff ect.
Personal Comments and Observations
It does what you’ve posited pretty well. Don’t talk to ATC, just take off and do your thing. Pick Live Traffic, turn it off. Pick Live Weather, or use the presets according to your preferences.
The pure aspects of flying are present in Sunrise (Internal Code Name for FS 2024). I’ve manged with some difficulty to bring in the modded planes that I’ve learned to enjoy in Kitty Hawk (FS 2020) and get them working in the new sim. Some replace the stock versions which are still lacking or flawed.
If all I want to do is hop in, fire it up and just take a cruise down the realistic coastline that I’ve come to recognize over the years from both the ground and limited time in real flying, it’s perfectly fine in that regard.
Yes, that is a good point. I’ve not tried ATC with FS24. It was terrible with FS20 and I’m guessing it’s just the same.
I use BeyondATC which I am using to wean myself onto VATSIM. ![]()
in 2024 it’s arguably worse
ATC in Kitty Hawk wasn’t bad - it got better when a former Mod from our team created an FAA Phraseology mod (he’s a PPL) and it sounded really good - with some corner cases. But that was because we could set it to Offline ATC and the Phraseology Mod could cue off the Locpak local file on the player’s PC. Sunrise makes that impossible with Azure TTS only.
BATC is great, they have a big update coming soon which should take it off the scripted responses it has at the moment. It is far far better than the stock ATC though that’s for sure.
PC. Ryzen 9 3900X. GeForce RTX2080Ti. 32Gb RAM.
Yeah. I don’t do airliner flights (why fly so high when there’s all that gorgeous scenery down there?).
I mainly do low level tooling around in small aircraft.
I am going to buy it. Today. Standard version.
I bought it and it runs great, but I can’t save my flights ! So it isn’t really any use.
But I never believed in a million years that it wouldn’t have a save feature !
Anyway, without a save feature it’s useless to me so I got a refund.
If you are somewhat of a masochist, or you like rewarding bad quality with your good money, then FS24 is for you.
I’d advise you return and refund asap. It’s horrendous
