MCDU entries required for Engine Start?

Hi Simmers,

quick question of a newbie:
Just to get engines started at the gate, do I HAVE to enter certain data (which) into the MCDU?

Thanks,
Jan

msfs-2024

No, you need the APU on, electrics and bleed air set up properly, fuel pumps on and then start.
Nothing in the MCDU is needed to start the aircraft.

Great thanks for confirming!

It’s really strange though.

My first engine to start just won’t come over N2 30%

APU running, APU Bleed on, Fuel Pumps all on.
IGN/Start set and ENG 2 on

What am I doing wrong. Can’t figure it out.

Which position do you have the round starter knob on the pedestal, are you turning it to the right (which is ign/start) or left (crank)?
It should be to the right on ign/start.

Yes, to the right, IGN/Start.
Throttles in idle, too

Fuel Pumps are all on as well.
APU Bleed ON

Everything does look good, but something is preventing you from getting fuel/lighting off.
Did you have any Marketplace addons in FS2020?
If so, I suspect you may have a mod conflict, as these are streamed to you now.

Yepp, I am also not aware of anything I do wrong. Looked at all the check lists and video tutorials. Doing the same steps as far as I can tell. Tries several times on several days (closed and restarted app and computer).
That’s why I was wondering if I maybe have to “physically” get fuel beyond what is displayed in the MCDU.

I find it kind of weird that the lower ECAM Fuel page says
F.FLOW 1+2: 0 LBS/MIN

Seems the engines just crank because of the APU bleed but simply won’t ignite and start the fuel flow.
Also switched Pack 1 and 2 off to possibly have more PSI on the APU Bleed. No luck.

BTW.
I don’t have any add-ons from previous versions. Started a virgin MSFS 2024 after a couple rounds in a full flight A320 motion sim. Got me hooked…

In case with " fuel/lighting" not coming off you mean the light blue square on the APU GEN button, that’s only because I pointed the curser at the button for the screenshot to show it’s status ON explicitly as a tooltip.

I actually ran into that same issue with the 737 max, probably also due to 2020 content conflicts. An option to disable old add-ons is absolutely essential in the short to medium term

Thing is, I don’t have and ad-ons.
2024 is the first thing bought and installed.

IT IS THE TCA Quadrant!
I unplugged my Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant and the engines started fine.
Seems like somehow the control for throttle axis 0-100% seems to hold back fuel injection.
Need to investigate further as to why this is so when I am under the impression I configured it according to spec.

At least I know how to start engines now… LOL
