Even though this is a simple livery I’ve always loved it. So naturally, I had to make it.
Crews are getting psyched up for a test flight but were asked to put on customer (airlines) decals before she takes flight. Now that I’ve worked out a system I’m going full speed ahead… enjoying painting this thing. Maybe I’ll make this thread my official “what’s next” thread. What do you think? Otherwise, my work is in too many separate places. Time to gather decals. It may be a day before she’s in your hands but it’ll be worth it.
I just had a chat with the paint crew. They made the red stripes too narrow. I told them to add one more upper and lower around the current red stripe. Setbacks abound. I knew it looked on the thin side.
Painting this big guy was a doozy… way more involved than I expected. I redid the red stripe about 3 different times. There’s one small spot on the right side that just didn’t want to cooperate. Eventually, I’ll get it right. For now, I’m happy with it.
Can anyone point me to a guide so I can make the silver belly shiny as it should be? I really don’t know how to go about that. It’d be super helpful. Thanks in advance.
■■■■ shame its not on a 747-100 now that would be something, but an awesome paint job nevertheless!!! Give the paint crew a well deserved pat on the back
I don’t have a guide, but you need to edit the blue channel in the .comp texture file, make it further away from black, a dark grey would make it more shiny, white is maximum shiny. Your paint program will need to be able to split these channels up. Photoshop obviously can.
I know. I just am not happy with Adobe and their pricing. I’d rather buy Photoshop outright than have to pay monthly. That’s why I love Paint.net but it’s not quite as powerful.
True. My last experience with Gimp was I didn’t like the UI so much. It was hard to figure out for me.
But it may be worth revisiting as it’s been a long time.
