Medium cargo missions allow airports with too short runway length

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

In MSFS 2024 Career Mode, some Medium Cargo missions are generated with destination airfields that are clearly unsuitable for cargo aircraft operations, such as aeromodelling or ultralight-only fields, with extremely short or non-standard runways.

In these cases, the issue occurs before the flight even starts:
none of the aircraft available for purchase for Medium Cargo missions are suitable for operating from the assigned destination airfield.

As a result:

  • the mission is offered by the Career Mode system,

  • the destination airfield is fixed,

  • but no viable aircraft can realistically land there,

  • making the mission impossible to execute and effectively blocking progress.

This is not a piloting or planning issue, but a logical contradiction in mission generation, where aircraft category, runway characteristics, and mission type are not properly validated against each other.

Example of unsuitable destination:

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you?

:right_arrow: Intermittently, but frequently enough to be reproducible across multiple Medium Cargo missions in Career Mode.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Launch MSFS 2024

  2. Enter Career Mode

  3. Select a Medium Cargo mission

  4. Review the assigned destination airfield

  5. Open the aircraft purchase / selection screen

  6. Observe that:

    • the destination is an aeromodelling or ultralight field, or has an extremely short runway

    • none of the available Medium Cargo aircraft are suitable for that airfield

  7. Note that the mission cannot be reasonably started at all

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: inappropriate airports for medium cargo mission .

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

every medium cargo mission (PC24)

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. choose a medium cargo mission with PC 24 for example flight from EDJS to UMNT (Kamyanyets)

  2. start airport EDJS is a glider /light aviation airfield with an 800m grass/asphalt runway and UMNT Kamyanyets is closed since 2018 (google Earth screen below) with a runway length of 382m.

  3. I rejected several flights after checking the airports but not this one.

  4. I will check if it’s the same with other types of aircraft for the medium cargo missions.

Today I learned three things.
1 - DA 40 Brakes works better in grass than asphalt.
2 - Asobo knows better than Diamond Aircraft the landing performance of a DA 40 (DA mention 318m ground roll, the game, makes me land on EDXH -06 which is about 250m
)
3 - Stupid bugs open since the release are still unfixed. We’re talking about a filter that basically says “If the plane need more than X meters to land don’t propose this airport as arrival”

If the tone is light and a bit sarcastic, the frustration is real and here, I buyed the game full price Aviator Package, played a week, left because of bugs, came back a year later, being fcked by the same bugs, discovering that theses same bugs are open since the release
 I don’t understand

I could have filed the template but, everyone else did and I’m here

The game does two things

  • Exclude aircraft based on the length and surface - this is demonstrable in game with some aircraft - I’ve seen it with the C208. If you hop over to Private Charter and you own a PC12 and a CJ4, you can find missions that exclude the CJ4 because the origin or destination have grass fields.
  • Will not show you missions if you have no compatible aircraft - this is also demonstrable. If you have only a C208, you will only see missions it can fly in freelancer. As soon as you get a PC12 or 24, higher value/longer range missions appear.

The only sane explanation for why it would work sometimes and not others, is a data integrity problem. Some aircraft appear to be missing the values required to exclude them based on runway length. By contrast the A320v2NEO can do missions much longer than it should, because it’s fuel consumption number is way too low and the filter thinks ‘yep it can reach’

If this was sorted, the existing filters would actually work to exclude these generated missions, the infrastructure is actually already there and operating.

This has been one of my beefs for a long time with the 208B and bad destinations. Arrive at your destination and find out there is a storm happening or it got dark and no runway lights or a RC runway to land on that is one foot wider than the wheels on your plane, cannot turn around to get to parking without generating errors. Then waiting a year and no changes still happening.

So now I always check the weather, length of both runways in the EFB. Seeing a number on the pavement sure helps. EFB will not show any obstacles and many times there has been trees, hills, buildings immediately at the end of the runway. Also check distance sometimes its not a straight line. Says 525NM in one part and in the EFB it is over 650NM because of the direction changes throughout the trip. Wind direction will kill your mileage if it is against you. I have done 5hr 15min trip conserving fuel to make it in a 208 very challenging.

I am thinking that they are computer generated destinations. The computer needs more training.

Real fun to figure out something like this is an issue after a two-hour mission, Asobo. Just wanted to add my frustration to the pile here. Thanks.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
‱Yes, and am also having the same issue with the PC-24.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
‱ I think the OP got it pretty straightforward.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Whats also really annoying is it selecting non functuonal airports and runways as well. Why would you not check this on nav data and exlude those airports from quests lol
