guys I would have found a used varjo aero from a private individual and now I have a quest 3. I come from g2 but given the imminent deprecation of wmr and given that my g2 is now getting old, I decided to move on to something else. I know that the varjo is no longer in production but I’m used to the display port and the very low compression, I can’t get used to the quest despite having a 4090 and a Ryzen 9 7900x3d. I tried all the possible settings, now I use VD on the Quest but with a cable the situation doesn’t improve, even if you raise the settings you can’t see it perfectly and therefore the only interesting VR could have been the varjo. I don’t consider crystal and bigscreen, I refuse to spend certain amounts of money and so I was wondering if any of you who have it or have had it, could tell me whether it’s worth it or not since these people are asking for €850 anyway, I can’t figure it out. understand if a possible transition from q3 to varjo could really be worth it, thanks to whoever will answer.
I Fly VR with Quest 3 Virtual Desktop VDXR no cable
See my configuration below
Good results flying IFR with my preferred aircraft TBM930
FPS between 44 to 72
MSFS settings HiGh some ULTRA
Ryzen 7 5800X3D CGU RTX4070 TI SUPER 32 Gb RAM 3200Mhz 850W Corsair PU
Internet 2 Gb Fiber
I have a 4090 but I don’t go beyond 20fps even with medium settings, lod at 100 and low bitrate, meh.
If you enjoy VR and use it a lot then 850 euros sounds like it could be money well spent. The Aero is meant to be an amazing headset.
I’ve never used a Quest 3 but I hated my Quest 2 (for all same reasons you stated in your post) so much I sold it and bought a G2 a couple of years ago.
I’m not is a position to rush out and buy a new VR headset at the moment but if I was I would definitely be looking at trying to get a good deal on a Aero or a Pimax.
You get way better visuals with Varjo, full stop.
pimax is priced too high in my opinion, plus it’s really huge and heavy. well if the problems were also there with quest 2, I think they solved little, it bothers me a lot to see all that lag and I wanted to understand if aero could be seen at least like quest 3 without compression problems like on g2.ps I use only and exclusively vr, almost never via monitor.
Perfect! do you know if there is much difference between steam base station 1 and 2? he would sell me the 1 but at the same price I would have found the 2 which however would arrive in a couple of weeks.
That’s poor performance. Maybe the problem is not the Quest 3…
You should be able to get a lot more FPS with higher settings with a 4090.
I don’t know the Ryzen things as I’ve got a i13900k…Are you CPU limited maybe ?
no, no cpu limitation, I get much better performance with g2
Best to go for 2 base stations, tried one but not good enough when turning the head further.
Make sure you use the chromatic aberration correction feature in OpenXR toolkit otherwise red and blue will stick out.
well consider that I would have the station about 1.5m away and I would have to turn my head more. If I took just one station, could I add another if needed?
Yes, you could easily add another base station if you wanted to. Btw, I love the Aero. Supremely comfortable, especially with the little built in fan it comes with, and great picture and performance. If your curious about the Pimax though (as I am), I would highly recommend VRFlightsimGuy’s YouTube series on the headset. Very informative.
I have a Quest 3 and I have also tested the Aero.
If you use VR a lot, go for the aero. €850 is however just ok as the new price is only €1000. Hopefully for this price you get also 1 base station (recommended for the Aero are 2 base stations)
(for my use the Quest 3 is good enough compared to the Aero. Flying heli is anyway limited by the bing maps landscape details. The quality of the Quest 3 on my system is also very good. 7800X3D, X670E, 1600W PSU, 64 GB DDR5, 4090 FE, VD, WiFi 6E dedicated)
no pimax look, not at all. it is huge, uncomfortable, heavy and extremely expensive, for a lower price I would have considered the bigscreen with OLED display. moreover, the Pimax mounts QLED or Quantum Dot screens and they gave me a lot of annoyance even on Samsung TVs, my eyes watered and burned after 10 minutes.
we have practically the same hardware but I have the impression that my problem comes from a slightly high line ping. I use an FWA network (mixed fibre+5G) which has a rather high download but an equally high ping, we’re talking about 23ms. in fact I had the same problem on the pico 4 which caused stuttering and image compression, the only compromise I would have found is to put the render scaling on the SIM at 120 but I also have a strong drop in fps, from 41 I also go down to 17 and it really becomes almost unusable, which is why I was considering a return to some viewer with a display port cable that doesn’t cost €2000.
Tracking is better with 2 bases but one will be ok for a start. See how you are getting on but at my end the second one made a good difference.
For VR we need more frames and better support in general, regardless of the headset in my humble opinion.
Not trying to keep you with the Quest 3 - streaming as opposed display port connections has it’s compromises - but you should be seeing much better performance with your hardware! I’m seeing ~70 fps TAA mode over sampling to around 4120 per eye with 7800X3d/RTX4090 combo.
I can’t get those results even if I put everything to minimum, maybe I’m doing something wrong but I don’t know what.
Thought I would join in. I have a Pico4, and a friend with a Quest 3. Compared image quality and FPS with both VRs and we both agree hardly any difference. I have the VR tweaked just right, thanks to support here. Before tweaking the cockpit instruments were blurry, now they are clear and sharp, as with the scenery. FPS could be better, but I prefer clarity over frames. I was interested in a Varjo Aero but very happy with my Pico 4. CTDs are very rare now. System i9-11900K, 32GB ram, RTX3090, FSVR TAA mode, ultra to high settings, VDXR, HEVC10bit codec, 150Mbps. OpenXR Toolkit Overide res 4120x4120, et. To sum-up, the best VR I have had.
I also had pico 4 twice but I had similar problems to the quest, shots almost everywhere.
