Performance is getting close to the point now where I don’t feel the need for a 4090. It will be amazing if I can kill the lust for that save myself £2000.

Ya, I’m thinking the same with my 3090. I bought it 2 years ago and many thought I was crazy to buy it then, crazy like a fox I now tell them, lol!

If I’m going to spend any $'s next year I think it will be to upgrade my current i9 9900k (5Ghz oc, water cooled, HT off) cpu, z390 MB, and 32Gb 3000 ram. I think that would probably net me more of an improvement in performance than just sticking a 4090 in my current setup. As of now, I’m not in any big hurry to do this.

My original plan when I bought my 3090 was to give the 4000 series a miss and then do a major pc upgrade with the 5000 series. Still seems like a sensible plan imho. I did a similar thing when I bought a 1080ti way back and that gpu let me bypass the 2000 series.

Yes, although I’d like the Quest Pro to have a higer resolution on paper, the fact that it looks as good as it does running as low a resolution per eye as it doesn means this headset has given me a real visual upgrade without requirinng a GPU upgrade, so essentially saved me a couple grand.

I will likely stick with this set up now and rather than just buy a new GPU will get a completely new PC in another year or so time. A nice 14900k setup with a 4090 Ti in late 2023 or, if I can wait another year, then a 15900k, 5090 setup in November 2024…

When it’s clear as a bell from edge to edge it looks like a lot more higher res imho.

The FOV on the Quest Pro is great! I’ve had a Vive Pro 2 and I MUCH prefer the Quest Pro FOV. It makes my Quest 2 and Reverb G2 look like they have had the sides cut off.

Thomas from VoodooVE VR on Youtube measured his levels and got 2 more degrees on the horizontal with the Pro than he does with his Valve Index.

Best of all, the entire FOV is viewable and in focus. For me this headset literally destroys any fresnel based headset for that reason.

I’ve fallen in love with this headset the more I use it.

I’ve just ordered a 13900k, 4090 beast PC to pair it with as I just want the perfect experience.

Ignore the comparatively low spec sheets, this headset is superb in practice. It’s my seventh headset and easily the biggest upgrade between headsets that I’ve experienced.

I got the Quest pro and I have to lean foward to read the cockpit panel. I didnt have that problem with my Reverb G2. Do you have the same problem.

I’m flying the Cessna 172 and Top Rudder Solo primarily so can’t speak for other planes but I’ve got it running now to where it’s about 95 percent as sharp in the centre as the G2 and much better in all other respects.

I’m flying wired using the official USB-C link cable using the following settings.

72 Hz 5408 x 2736 resolution
Encode bitrate = 400
Encode width = 3600
Distortion curvature = low
Sharpening = enabled
ASW = auto

In Sim I’m flying with render resolution at 100 percent with DirectX 12 and DLSS quality

I am NOT using the OpenXR toolkit as that corrupted my image making it very shimmery.

I am currently using a 10850k, 32 GB ram and a 3090 but I’m having a custom 13900k, 64GB, 4090 built for me by PC Specialist.

I get a better picture running TAA than DLSS Quality, but with my settings above its stuttery hence the new PC.

You may still find stutters with your new system. I have 13900KF 4090 64GB and with TAA I notice a stutter.

I am going to try deleting GeForce Experience as I have heard this can dramatically improve performance.

I currently have an i9 12900k, 64 GB DDR4 RAM, 4090, and an HTC Vive Pro 2. I’ve been a bit disappointed with the HTC Vive Pro 2 and am contemplating the Quest Pro. It sounds like it is a solid upgrade with noticeable differences in clarity and sharpness?

Is it still a large improvement overall? What is your encode bitrate set at? I found my performance increased in all games when I lowered it from 500 to 400, for wired PCVR via the USB-C cable.

I had a Vive Pro 2 which I hated due to the glare, godrays, lack of binocular overlap and the fact the lenses felt misaligned, like I couldn’t focus quite properly even though the displays were clearly very good. I did really like the Vive Pro 2 colours though.

Compared to the Vive Pro 2 the Quest Pro has next to zero glare and godrays, similarly great colours and panel brightness, and true edge to edge clarity across the whole field of view. The FOV, if you dial the lenses as close to your eyes as possible is very good, nearly as wide on the horizontal as the Vive Pro 2, but better on the vertical. Despite it having a comparatively low resolution and lacking displayport connectivity you don’t suffer the issues that plague the Vive Pro 2 visuals, so overall, to my eyes its a big improvement.

But you have to also be aware that the resolution is considerably less. You can see some screendoor in the Quest Pro, and you will need to have a powerful PC to bump the resolution up to its maximum where it really shines. The Vive Pro 2 will be more responsive and have lower latency due to its displayport connectivity, but how much that matters in practical use I’m not sure.

Do you use oculus tray for your bitrate changes and if so do you have to input the changes every time you start the sim.

The best way with OTT is to use a Game profile for msfs for asw options. To simply change bitrate it’s easiest to just go to the OTT Link panel before starting up msfs, then change it there, and then hit the save button. This automatically changes the ODT setting and works fine when you startup msfs. I’ve found that once you find your perfect Link bitrate for msfs (usually 300-400) this works well for everything.

I just use the Oculus Debug Tool.

What are you running for spec’s?
I ended up getting the Pro as well (upgrading from the CV-1), and sadly the performance tanked.

What i currently have,
i5 9600k
64gb DDR4
RD6700 XT

Tend to run the details between Meduim and High. The CV-1 chugged along with no problem, but the Pro seems to just choke up (screen tearing and audio flutter).

Sorry to say you have the wrong graphics card for the Quest Pro. The Pro uses USB-C or Airlink connectivity, that requires compression and encoding work to be done via the PC prior to sending the signal to the headset and AMD GPUs are just bad at it as they do not have dedicated hardware encoders on the video card.

AMD cards are bad for VR generally and for Quest/Quest Pro specifically for this reason.

I don’t think there is anything you can do to get good performance with that setup to be honest. If you could get one, the Rift S is probably the headset that would give you the best upgrade.

But with a high end headset like the Pro sadly you need a decent GPU, which essentially means Nvidia.

Some premium headsets just outright don’t support AMD at all, Varjo for example, their Aero only works with Nvidia cards.

Yesterday I got the latest Quest Pro v51 PTC, together with the Oculus Desktop app beta PTC. It now includes Local Dimming for all PCVR apps, including msfs (QPro-only with either Link or Air Link, not VD right now). This option is enabled by default in the ODT and basically uses ~500x zones where brightness/contrast can be varied to try to simulate what OLED screens do. You can turn this on/off in ODT, like Link Sharpening, and immediately see the differences.

OLED screens can individually dim the brightness of each pixel for better blacks/dark colors. IPS screens, which most VR headsets use, can’t. So iirc what local dimming does is it dims the backlight zones instead, which are spread throughout the screen.

While it’s not quite OLED, it’s getting pretty close. Blacks look better and colors pop out even better than before. I’ve tried this using Air Link with Lone Echo 1/2, HLA, and MSFS (including some night flying). The results are very impressive with my QPro/rtx4090. I haven’t had a chance to try it with a Link cable yet but I’d guess that the results may even be a bit better.

Thank you for the info! I almost impulsively updated to the PTC to try this and was worried it would inhibit the sim. Since this is exclusively what I use VR for, I was worried about pulling the trigger. I need to check it out. Who knows how long until it will make and official build.

Agreed, it really is excellent. I’ve been replaying Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and it looks incredible with local dimming enabled. I have a 13900K, 4090 setup too, don’t do wireless though, prefer the cable as I only have a standard ISP provided router and don’t really play any active games where the cable would bother me.

With the price drop to $999 the Quest Pro is a fantastic headset now.
