msfs-2020
Landing the C185F Ski version as per the following example in FS2020 results in the aircraft landing on the snow ok and coming to a complete stop but then the aircraft is stuck fast and doesn’t move again even with full power.
(Landing at a normal airfield there is no issue)
The main issue is with FS2020, community folder - empty.
For FS2024 I have NZA’s NZMC scenery installed and have tested 2024 again both with the NZMC scenery installed and without anything in the community folder and can now confirm there seems a similar issue with the 2024 version although not always…just the 2020 version has the constant issue. (If parked slightly on an uphill rise you are completely stuck)
I’ve just done a test and I think I’ve found the issue.
Even with the skis low, the park brake works. And since it’s possible to land without any problem on skis with the park brake activated, you can’t see it. I think you just need to switch it off.
As an indication, this behavior is the same with the C172 and with the PC-6 MS/Asobo.
With the Wilga it’s not the case, because with the skis the park brake is deactivated.
Thanks for testing, so can you totally de-activate or switch off the parking brake?
I’ve tried hiding the yoke and making sure the park brake is off (which is when the brake handle is showing horizontally) & giving full power up on the snow but nothing is happening.
Yes it does seem like there’s some sort of brake applied.
When you start a flight you have to of course release the handbrake to get moving so surely it wouldn’t come on by itself and stay on after landing??
Unfortunately with this plane files are encrypted. So you can’t deactivate the park brake.
What you can do is to spawn on a runway with no snow and skis up.
Hide the yoke and play with throttle to be sure in which position the park is on and off.
Another thing you can try when you are stuck in snow is to move the skis up to see if it helps.
Something else is perhaps you have multiple bindings for park brake. Check bindings for all your devices and only keep the one on the keyboard for testing.
And don’t forget that on snow, specially in mountains with altitude, the plane won’t begin to move as easily than on a runway. Moving rudder right and left with some throttle can help.
I have noticed that with the ski version, the 185 for MSFS 2020 has too much ground drag and requires a lot of power just to taxi on an even taxiway with the skis retracted. Got stuck trying to taxi on an uphill hard surface runway after landing. (LFHU Alp d’ Huez, France)
Have not tried landing on snow yet.
I’ve done a bit more testing and think I have determined the issue, you only get stuck if the aircraft is facing uphill when you stop, there is just not enough power to even turn around when on an uphill rise …particularly in snow. If however you land and facing downhill, it seems very easy to get going again! The C185 Ski version does seem however to be really underpowered. Can any others confirm a landing on the snow with the aircraft facing uphill is impossible to get going again?
