Hi all,
Figured I’d introduce myself here with a video. I am a blind simmer and have been for going on five years now, starting out with FSX and the now defunct Its your Plane full voice addon.
The MSFS interface for blind simmers is a royal pain. Not only does it use grid or what I like to call cursor menus, making it possible to move out of the menu, this also presents a problem with the painful way to move the mouse to items in the interface.
With FSUIPC7 limited, the talking flight monitor addon we use in the other sims can’t get any GPS information, but at least it read certain things like the startup sequence etc. For accessibility purposes, we also have GPWS callouts even in aircraft that wouldn’t realistically have them.
So the full assist AI feature is awesome, until it isn’t. First off, I wish an assist option could be added to just do what this feature does with autotaxi. Since I currently don’t have a joystick hooked up, nor would it help if I did currently, at least for offline flights, I’d love the ability to set the assists to, say, middle ground, have autotaxi on, and then just switch copilot on and off with CTRL-Alt-X to pushback/autotaxi.
In the Airbus the feature sucks. The AP tends to overspeed and with the limited info I can get from the sim, full AI is the best thing I can use right now.
As for this flight, the worst thing it did, or actually didn’t do, is be smart and not 100 percent rely on the ATC. When it was autotaxiing to parking, the ATC told me to hold for traffic. I’m not sure whether the assist just turns off then as there’s no sound, but I went to have a snack, came back and ultimately didn’t complete the flight because of it.
Enjoy, I really love the audio immersion in this sim, including the cockpit acoustics.
