Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Coming to Sony PlayStation 5

Oof. Desire to buy a PlayStation …. vanishing…

Also, the marketplace will start with first-party aircraft only and third-party add-ons will be added later.

I’d considered this for PSVR2 support. But the need to repurchase everything I’ve bought from the Marketplace is a deal-killer. Zero interest in adding the platform now. I’ll stick with PC VR.

I get why this is the case. Very few games support cross-platform entitlements for add-ons. But a sim where many of us have invested in add-ons for five years, the inability to support those is a showstopper.

Still wishing the PS5 version success, as it’s good for the hobby and for the MSFS platform, and PlayStation’s got such a larger user base around the world than Xbox so that’s a lot of potential new converts.

Alas, some of them could be potential PC fliers down the road (as some Xbox folks upgraded to gaming PCs after getting hooked on the console version) but the reverse situation might prevent that, as they won’t have their PS5 DLC on PC.

Yes, I feel the same! I made three conclusions after watching the stream:

  1. To by from the Marketplace makes less sense now if purchases cannot be brought over. To buy an Xbox in my region will not happen.

  2. The desire to by a PlayStation has kind of vanished.

  3. You cannot trust Copilot at all!

But for the sim community I still think it is good that the sim is coming to PlayStation.

I don’t know why the Microsoft Account is not required, since it’s there in other games like Minecraft or Forza Horizon. It ties the community together and makes crossplay and cross-progression possible. Now PS5 players will not even be able to take part in community fly-ins for example. They will feel like not part of the “main” community (Xbox + PC).

Yes I agree - not having crossplay is unfortunate. I wonder what might be required make it happen?
As mentioned above regarding Forza, I mean it is possible - but why not so with MSFS?

My Personal Comment & Observation
This may not transpire. Whilst PS5 users may not be able to fly in the same multiplayer session as PC & Xbox users, the CMs may create a parallel session for PS5 users, just as there are parallel sessions today for the current release & SU beta builds (as multiplayer users can only see others on the same build as themselves). Whilst obviously not the preferred or perfect solution, it would be better than nothing.

Well… We may not be part of the main community soon enough. Doesn’t PS5 dwarf Xbox? And if there aren’t enough PC players to make up the difference, PS5 could have the larger install base!

A Ponzi scheme consists of people handing out money to a schemer for a promised profit, but only if they convincing other people to hand out their money, who then have to get money from other people, repeat until the money runs out and the later schemers get nothing.

MS is not doing that here. Are the possibly designing and marketing software as to compel users to keep paying for access to new, incrementally different versions of it? Probably. See also: Electronic Arts, Rockstar Games, Activision

People handed out their money for a sim with promised features. But they only get those promised features (profit) if new simmers are convinced to hand over their money too. Why? Because every release of this game was sold overpromised and unfinished, and the new simmers are needed to fund its continued development. The new simmers were promised even more features, requiring even more new simmers (investors) to keep this operation going. And the process continues. It’s not a literal ponzi scheme of course. But maybe you can see how it might resemble one?

“I’ve been playing flight simulator for years  /shrug”

It’s not the original players that are going to be short changed. 2020 released in pretty rough shape, but those original simmers eventually got many (not all) of their features. That’s kind of my point. The original investors are the ones that profit in these schemes. It’s the later ones that are going to be left holding the bag. Like the ones who bought 2024 for its Career Mode, only to see large parts of it are totally unfinished and it’s riddled with bugs, and before that gets finished, the moon is being promised to a whole new batch of console gamers. What if the PS5 launch flops. Does 2024 not get finished then? I’m sure the PS5 release won’t be in great shape either as history repeatedly demonstrated. Every single release is minimally viable.

“I got mine.”

In other words: “The sim works for me, so who cares if some console gamers buy a broken game.”

I’m just worried that this is not sustainable. Ponzi schemes eventually collapse. There are 130 first party planes now. Some of them are broken, many need a lot of work. Bush Trips, Reno Races, Red Bull, Career, Photography, X-Box, PS5… more and more promised features… Maybe I’m wrong, and the dev staff is healthily growing right along with its investments and the development cycle is right on track. But I’m worried they’re overpromising with every release and their debt is mounting. Then this is all going to end.

It’s just a $60 video game though, not somebody’s life savings, and lots of other studios are selling overhyped products that should be labeled early-access, so I guess it’s fine.

I wonder if we will see more new aircraft than in the trailer

I’m sure there will be separate instances created for PS5 players. But that doesn’t solve the issue. Not being able to play together is bad, and something I hoped modern games have finally left behind.

These kind of comments become, luckily, rarer and rarer. More and more critics are experiencing better and better performance. There still are unsolved issues, but there is trust that Asobo will mange those as well.

Misleading to suggest this…

PSVR2 works great on msfs2020, been using it since Aug 2024. I’m testing on ps5 beta but not put psvr2 on it yet as looking at a bug at the moment to see if it was a temp bug.

I’ll give the vr a go, installed ps5 beta last night and 1st flight in the c172 was interesting with the yoke going in the opposite direction until I levelled off. Where are we supposed to submit bug feedback?

While I cannot give you a specific means of getting there, I am aware that there is a hidden (invite only?) sub-forum for PS5 beta feedback. Perhaps you could send a private message to the moderators, who could get you connected to the right individual(s) that would set access up for you.
