I’m pretty happy. Got some 2020 scenery packages installed and no real effect on FPS.
KTEB to NYC showing the Lincoln Tunnel helix, Times Square from the air and on the ground, and (not so) Giants stadium. AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, GeForce 4070 Ti Super, 32 gig ram
After another uninstall / reinstall. Series X seems a bit better… once you get past the long loading screen (Not sure why it sits on this black credit screen for 2-3 minutes now, just wait and it will eventually load. - pictured)
NOT perfect by any means though.
Only few the Citation from Baltimore to NYC…scenery rending was fine, sky and ground actually looked pretty good. The jet, I still have to fiddle around with the trim. AP doesn’t work on my end still. I DID get a CTD however when I chose to fly out of LA. The live weather kicked in…pretty severe fog / low clouds popped in and the sim crashed.
Real Weather IMO is working very well so far. I took off from Atlantic City, NJ where it was raining around 7pm…just like the actual radar on my app. It changed over to snow approaching Philly, again same as my radar app.
ALSO…nice to see my SamScene3D add on’s back. No issues with Philly (from Modern Cities Vol. 1) and NYC scenery.
Longitude as well. Lack of specifics in the release notes is a serious problem. I’m shocked I’m saying this, but I am getting closer to dropping 24 due to what seems like perpetual frustration with the lack of fundamental capabilities that were in place before launch, and the fact that we’re at the holidays now with these gaps.
I fly almost every day (retired). This is unacceptable. I’m quick to forgive, but this one is tough.
Okay. I just completed a relatively short flight in Canada with the new patch, and after reinstalling some of the MSFS 2020 stuff that has been unlocked. I have to say that the graphics performance has improved greatly but I’m not sure why. I was able to chuck my graphics settings up a fair bit as well. And it was in icing, rain, IMC conditions and it worked pretty well. No stuttering noted.
There remains a problem with the TBM9 where loading cargo in the thing causes it to fall back tail first with the nose gear off the ground, though you can still taxi. Eventually it inexplicably fixes itself. I’ll file a separate bug report on that one.
Just got two random CTDs when flying the Fenix with today’s patch. You mentioned Fenix crashes, so I’m assuming CTDs with the Fenix on this patch is a problem affecting multiple users?
After 25 attempts yesderday to try and launch a flight, I was able to fly for a few hours. Those few hours were a visual jaw dropping experience. (Alaska - compared to what Alaska looked ike in 2020))
So far, I still get CTDs and total hard reboots, but I believe it’s something with the latest driver’s I’m using - they happen to me outside of MSFS 2024 too. Patch 4 seems more stable for me than yesderday though.
I still believe we are all a glutton for punishment with 2024 though. ![]()
Managed 1.5hrs flight in Fenix. No stutters but my in flight fps has dropped from mid 50s. To mid 30s worse than 2020 now. There is also weird behaviour of freelook camera now where it is very laggy. It’s unpleasant to look around the cockpit as moves so slowly. Thought would try A330 see if ame but got CTD at picking plane and livery both default, seriously after 1 month 4 patches. Earlier in the day did real time 3.5 hrs flight in 2020 and 5.5hrs flight in xp12 work worked perfectly it’s no5 my pc. Time park 2024 in the hanger again
On Steam version and Asian servers in game all looks OK. Tried the Asobo A320 Neo and screens all worked, take off from Melbourne Tullamarine using all Ultra settings was smooth, no stutters at 4K. Haven’t tried VR, though not expecting anything yet for VR users.
Same with the A400 Atlas. This release is just comical……
Hi … I’m not flying Fenix … was that re your suggestion. Also my typo … should read EGGP (Liverpool)
In the middle of a flight right now in the Fenix from Las Vegas to Ontario, CA. KLAS has some comical terrain issues, but the sim itself is running much better. My FPS is up to 50 and everything is running smoother. Intel 14700F, RTX 4060 with 8 GB VRAM, 64 GB RAM. Can’t wait to see what this looks like in one of the GA planes, which were already running great.
Try EGGP (Liverpool) and let us know.
Yesterday evening after the update with the Fenix from Munich to Hamburg, both simwings on vatsim fsltl, it ran super smoothly. I hope it stays that way. Merry Christmas
More CTD`s than before the Patch, no fun ![]()
absolutely NOT, the simulator is worse than the previous patch, it freezes all the time, there is no real support for the triple monitor and there are no missions for the CJ4 … REJECTED
Still no heavy cargo mission & super heavy cert.
Reminds me of the Rod Machado training videos. Is he back in the sim? ![]()
Hitting ESC to exit a flight freezes every time following update. Community folder nil entries.
At last, this update feels like a significant improvement—at least from my perspective. For the first time since this iteration’s release, I’ve observed terrain that genuinely resembles a detailed and granular ground texture with grass, which gave it a somewhat beautiful appearance. This occurred while I was testing an area near Prague, though I’m unsure if the region simply had better data.
I also experienced a surprising moment when I encountered animals in the simulator for the first time—specifically, cows grazing in a paddock. Initially, I flew closer to confirm what I was seeing, and to my surprise, they were indeed cows that reacted to my approach.
Regarding photogrammetry (PG), I conducted some tests and found it continues to resemble melted paint, with noticeable interference affecting the new trees in the simulator. This results in the trees appearing blocky, as though the PG is blending with the default tree models. For now, I’ve disabled PG, and it works adequately in areas where I’m not intimately familiar with the terrain. However, when flying around Melbourne, Australia (my hometown), the lack of photogrammetry was evident, as the scenery was noticeably less realistic. That said, until a solution is found to decouple PG from the trees and restrict it to buildings, I will likely keep it disabled.
Additionally, I was pleased to discover that the load time from selecting a departure point to entering the simulation has drastically improved, reducing from approximately 1–2 minutes to consistently under 30 seconds.
All of this testing was conducted entirely below 2,000 feet—primarily under 1,000 feet—using the Archer Midnight. I have not yet tested any airliners but, given the improvements to flightseeing, I am content to wait until after the holiday season to explore airliner performance. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised to see the simulator running so smoothly on the Xbox Series X today. This is the first time I’ve felt a genuine sense of excitement and amazement since MSFS 2020 launched on consoles.
