Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 v1.2.8.0 (Patch #4) Discussion

Nice pic. 12999 ft seems to be the max altitude for a lot of aircraft.

A few months from now, 2024 will have been upgraded a few times and MS will talk about how incredible it is. YT influencers will put out hundreds of videos (because they need to make money) and people will be drawn in. So like it or not, MS knows they’re eventually going to get their money. If people haven’t bought already and aren’t buying at Christmas, they know they’ll buy in 2025. Trust me, they’ve been down this road before and they’re not afraid of people on forums who are complaining about whether the game should have been released in its current state.

I fell for the hype and pre-purchased (Aviator) and refunded. But the next day I bought Premium Deluxe because I knew I’d buy it eventually. At least this way I can configure it and have it ready for when the game is in better shape.

I’m not sure which is more confusing, these third party programs or the in-game UI… but at least I have more flexibility with the outside programs. I long for a reverse thrust axis.

Asobo/ Microsoft

I find it hard to believe that BOTH Microsoft & Asobo did not appreciate even ONE YEAR ago, THAT MSFS2024 would not be ready for release IN Dec 2024, – or did they ?

Whatever, now it ā€œis what it isā€, and what really matters now is how the situation is dealt with – assume either MS or Asobo believe or admit there is a ā€œsituationā€ that need to be dealt with .

This is why those in charge get paid the big bucks, and get the early gray hair !!

I’m on Xbox X and have to say that I for one am happy they took the risk to launch it as is.

I generally fly helicopters with a bit of GA flying thrown in. The last few days have been some of the best flight simming I’ve experienced. Way better than 2020 post SU15.

Cliff and mountain detail is incredible. Grass and bushes moving during landing and take-off. The EFB is a great addition. Career mode is fun.

Prior to patch #3 it was usable but not as good as now. Patch #3 increased CTDs to an unacceptable level and doubled loading time to over 5 minutes. I reinstalled the sim at that point but saw no real change. Patch #4 has virtually eliminated the CTDs and performance has improved dramatically.

Coinciding with Patch #4 I got access to the majority of my 2020 library.

Is it perfect? No. Currently there’s no air traffic, live online or AI. I’ve experienced various lockups in menus between flights and the loading time is still over 5 minutes compared to the initial 2 to 2 ½ minutes.

Would I consider going back to 2020? Not a chance unless 2024 really takes a turn for the worse.

YMMV

They traditionally have released a new Forza game every year in the Autumn until this generation, when the years without a new Forza see a new MSFS.

So, from a production standpoint they might really just want to release a vehicle sim or simcade game every year for the holidays.

And it is safe to say Xbox Game Studios and Asobo are both fairly new to flight simulators so their sequel rhythms likely aren’t quite as well oiled as Turn 10’s and Playground Games’.

Also, being entirely fair, 2020 was a buggy mess too, but Cyberpunk 2077 came out at the same time and got all the bad press so somehow MSFS came out unscathed.

It is quite possible Xbox Game Studio didn’t learn their lessons from 2020 because people generally loved the sim when it came out because it was so groundbreaking.

This time, and also because the servers locked everyone out that first day, 2024’s bugs were more out in front.

Definitely a server issue going on here - yesterday was fine just a basic Cessna 172 flying around to check out scenery

Tonight forget it same scenario with a 172 it was a slide show - High end pc and components with 1gb internet connection - hope this streaming concept can get worked out - when it works its great but its spotty at best :frowning:

Its to bad really want to luv 2024

What exactly is the situation? Releasing a piece of SW as complex as this one to hundreds of thousands of users and certain percentage of users having issues with it followed by their vocal complaints?

i rather enjoyed the sim until today… it’s failed to load once and then froze twice in the world map and once loading a flight. they broke something.

Oh, ā€œtheyā€ know the situation… Seb and David (Asobo Holding major shareholders).

I’m sure they do. It might be a more comprehensive understanding than people here have.

More than a month now that this software has been available. We got four updates for what? To satisfy little role-playing game fans on a game console?

Still no correction to the bug where control profiles associated with each joystick were not saved on configurations that use several joysticks of the same model. Still full of graphic bugs (normal ground texture replaced by a mosaic of colors on certain parts of the terrain, cliffs that look like smooth vertical walls like a wall of ice, greenish-colored beaches, etc.). Fortunately, we obtain a much better result by replacing the mediocre Bing map with the much better Google map !

And again, all these malfunction problems with several aircraft (controls that do not respond, faulty instrument lighting, MFD screens, etc.).

Ridiculous ā€œroadā€ traffic with vehicles turning stupidly in the open field.
Secondary airport parking lot filled with static planes like an international airport…

Was it really necessary to break everything?

In short, I am very happy to have tested the MSFS2024 version from Game Pass and not to be one of all those who paid the high price hoping to have an improved and not degraded version of MSFS2020.

Finally, I’m dropping this thing and going back to MSFS2020 until Asobo gets real developers and managers who won’t just be concerned with commercial profit.

Happy Christmas to everyone.

We used to have Sim Updates and World Updates. Now they introduced Game Updates.

Yes.

And perhaps in some cases, this percentage is 100%.

live weather urually no work …

Looks like VRAM usage decreased, but so did ground texture sharpness.
I wonder if the two are related?

I see, thanks for your reply!

Why are some instruments dark during the day and bright at night?

They implemented a ā€œbrightness sensorā€ that is meant to work with the brightness of the cockpit to control brightness of displays. From what I understand it works in conjunction with the brightness functions of the displays themselves.

Unfortunately, it seems to not be working well or it needs tuning from the individual developers.

I haven’t read the SDK documentation on it, but I’ve had a cursory conversation with one of the aircraft developers who gave me a bit of insight into what is going on.

In a nutshell, it needs work.
