I agree. I am a little late in realizing that, despite all the focus on minimum/recommended/ideal requirements for PCs and Xbox, there is little or no discussion about what hardware we will need to stream 2024 data to support 1080p/2K/4K at the endpoint. It’s clear that 2024 will rely more on cloud assets streamed to your PC/Xbox than did 2020, so robust streaming support seems even more important to the new sim.
Also, for those of us who don’t have access to a fiber-optic network, the hardware path for data is Server >ISP > Modem > Router, so one more bit of hardware to consider. I am on a cable network, not fiber (lucky sod, you). I now think I will have to upgrade my data plan and modem to 1 Gbps level to deliver a satisfactory data stream for 2K.
The chart shows a minimum 10 Mbps connection, recommended 50 Mbps, and ideal at 100Mbps. It’s also common for specs to be a bit conservative to ensure advertised performance is delivered and you may get by on a bit less than that.
Also, cable vs fiber has little to do with it. The biggest difference between the two for your average person is that fiber has synchronous up and download speeds, where cable has limited upload speeds. I have fiber now, but I was on a 500/20 Mbps cable connection prior to this, so don’t think you are somehow going to miss out on anything if you don’t have fiber. The only time it makes a noticable difference is if you produce live streams or upload a lot of videos, or similar uploads.
Chances are you will be fine on your existing plan unless it’s super slow. If that’s the case, then sure you may want to upgrade your service. I wouldn’t worry about upgrading the modem or router because those are going to operate much faster than even a 100 Mbps connection. Check your specs, but I’m guessing your modem and router are good to at least 500 Mbps already.
a few questions… can it be said with certainty that whoever manages to run 2020 with the same graphics settings can also run 2024?
Will Flight Simulator 2024 use the non-beta DX 12? Will the graphics options be the same?
From what I understand, will there be an optimization of the use of cores in the processors?
Thanks all for attention
I’d say if you’re more than 20% better specs than the series S or X (depending on their respective resolutions and their streamlined OS advantage) I wouldn’t be sweating anything before seeing how 2024 plays out first. They’re shoehorning it into those with no PC ONLY features listed.
Well I’m hoping they’ve done some serious work on DX12.
I have to run DX11 on 2020 as DX12 runs like a dog. It used to be regular CTDs but now it’s just slideshows after about an hour of flight. Still unusable.

I still don’t regret buying my Xbox series X. It still looks awesome at 4k and smooth as a butter. Heck of a lot better than my gaming laptop with a GTX 1650. Sure, there are some add-ons I can’t do, but I don’t have to worry if it can run 2024. It will still run smooth and look awesome. And I don’t have to make another purchase. I couldn’t get it to look this awesome on a PC without spending a couple of grand. I do me, you do you.
