CYBA Banff Airport 51.208333, -115.540278

In sim they’ve got a Lake Louise airport - CYLE; not sure how they came up with that. Haven’t figured out what coords the fake airport has, just used the globe screen to get to it.

LLER‏ - Ramon Airport
29°43′25.3″N 35°00′41.1″E

CYND - Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport (QC, Canada) - there’s a transmission tower right in the middle of the runway. It’s not an object that you can collide into though, the plane passed right through it.

CJX5 isn’t in the sim

This airports is missing:

How trustworthy is the “ourairports.com” data? Those lists are missing real world airfields but include some closed/decommissioned strips.

Asobo have access to the definitive real-world AIPs through Navblue, so anything with an ICAO identifier should already be known to them. I suspect there is another reason for not having them in the game, either data fidelity or some local terrain quirk that the engine can’t handle e.g. tide-covered beach runways at EGPR Barra.

How many Marketplace Bucks do we get for each reported missing airport? Given that you’re basically asking the paying users to QA for you.

SVPA - Puerto Ayacucho, Venezuela

Good question @BonzoG and yes there are a lot of airports listed on that site that are closed, decommissioned or even appear out in the middle of nowhere.

I can tell you that of the airports I posted as missing, I visually looked at each airport in Google Earth and filtered out locations that appear in the middle of nowhere, already exist in MSFS2020, or are clearly decommissioned airports. Also, the first hundred or so I posted in this thread, I searched for each one in the sim and did not find them or they used the same identifier but were not the same airport.

Digging into your suspicion as to why they are missing, I looked at a few using Bing Maps, I can see some are either:

  • partially obscured by clouds (Wao Airport, 7.63378 124.734)
  • have poor imagery (Hao Airport -18.0748 -140.946)
  • outdated imagery (Neyveli Airport 11.613 79.5274. Bing Maps has 2012 imagery showing this location is a heliport while Google Earth with 2019 imagery shows it was converted to an airport)
  • and some that are pretty clear they are airports (Qaisumah/Hafr Al Batin Airport 28.3352 46.1251).

Also, take a look at the following airports in MSFS2020, KRJD and 5MD0. They appear to be in the exact same location but are listed as two separate airports with different names but one lists runway 12/30 as 3,200ft asphalt and the other has it as 3,205ft bituminus. I found dozens like that.

I’d be very interested to hear from Asobo to find out how their database of airports was generated. As you can see by other posters in this thread and other threads, Asobo clearly missed a few. In their defense, I’m amazed at the number they do have in the sim especially the number of remote unpaved strips. I’m sure I missed a ton myself, even with coordinates.

Yeah understood.

Bing is lame. I can understand why we’re locked in but that reasoning is also lame. I can see an alternate universe where this game is made not by MS and uses google or some other data set.

I was actually pretty impressed with the amount of stuff it DID have; I’m in Canada. I was shocked when a local ultra-lite strip was included but equally shocked about Longyearbyen in Norway. Then came here to find out everyone sad about missing Canadian strips.

Another potential solution would be an easy airport editor/creator so you can add in your own run-ways/strips or fuel caches. I really wanted to land on the Aircraft Carrier in San-Diego but its an AI interpreted mess and thought an editor that can add in custom strips anywhere could fix that…

Given how they are planning on monetizing content and having weekly updates I can see us getting a lot of these strips slowly added in. If through a paid DLC. It’ll be like $10,000 for an aircraft carrier pack I bet.

Perhaps if the community was capable of publishing free stuff to the market place it wouldn’t feel like such a horrible corporate cash grab. Same goes for airplanes; $40.00 for a Cessna 182T, you know for $100 I get a 787 and a sirus and a bunch else right!?!?

I guess I am just hoping for a bunch of ‘free’ stuff to get added to market place and that some of that free stuff is all the features I am missing.

Same in Belgium, we’re missing:

  • Beauvechain (EBBE)
  • Brasschaat (EBBT)
  • Florennes (EBFS)
  • Kleine Brogel (EBBL)
  • Koksijde (EBFN)

A few years ago, the BENELUX governments have asked to remove all sensitive / military areas (which for some reason even includes military cemeteries) on publicly available satellite imagery. The result is that those locations are pixelated or blurred, and I’m guessing the AI doesn’t know what to do with it, so we only get blurry ground textures instead of airports in MSFS.

Older versions of the satellite imagery (pre-2015 or so) is still publicly available, and DOES show those sites that are now obscured, so I hope the devs can use that somehow.

Great job! Thank you so much for taking so much time!

Just a comment about missing French airports:
many of the missing French airports are blurred in Bing/Google maps/Google Earth (sometimes in only one, sometimes in all 3).
This is because the French military wants them to be blurred, for some reason.
If Asobo is not allowed to have them in the sim, I don’t see them ever appearing in the sim.
They partially appear in the sim, with big grass areas delimited with hidden straight lines, so the surrounding areas end abruptly, ie Dijon Longvic, Cazaux. The runways, taxiways are missing, but a few buildings do appear…
I don’t know why some airports in France are blurred on maps. Nimes Garons, Istres Le Tubé, are missing in FS. What is disappointing is that Nimes Garons is mostly a civilian airport; Ryanair used to fly there (before the virus crisis).
In https://www.bing.com/maps/aerial: a few examples

ile Longue in FS: quite poor

area with nukes in FS, south of ile Longue: quite poor

We can see the sources are blurred.

French Nuclear power plants are blurred too in Bing aerial… for example Flamanville nuclear power station in FS:

There are blurred areas in many countries:

  • several airports are blurred in the Netherlands
  • many airports blurred in Greece (even some small civilian, not only military)
  • many other countries

True, LSZA is there. My bad. Sorry.

Norway is missing Fyresdal (ENFY) in their list. There is actually a runway in the sim when you fly there, but it’s not in the From/To lists!

Denmark is missing a small glider airport Kongsted air strip (EKKS). Already report to zendesk.
