As of today I got an error I am not given the solution for, when starting MSFS
Until yesterday MSFS worked fine.
As of today I got an error I am not given the solution for, when starting MSFS
Moved to User Support Hub Crashes (CTDs) for community assistance.
Why do you repeat what the error message told me?
I do not see this as a crash, though. MSFS is giving me a cryptic error message with no solution to retrieve said updates. ![]()
LOL - click and read carefully.
The message âyou are missing packages that are essential to run Microsoft Flight Simulatorâ appears when mandatory packages did not install correctly. The missing packages should be available and ready to be installed manually in the Content Manager.
If the problem persists, delete the folder âWGSâ
No, no change. Error still there, preventing FS to launch. BTW your first solution suggestion would work only when I could launch FS, right?
Yep mate.
Try this
Thank you - I can follow your instructions up to a certain point. It did launch now, but it said: Mandatory update - it did not say the name FS history. Ok, I made the update, which must have been the history file though. But now - what is point four exactly? You said: Go ahead, update, and then you say: âWhen asked to update, choose install laterâ. I am confused. There is no choice given to âinstall laterâ. The sim will now continue to start up, but it freezes on the page ânew activitiesâ with the three pics. The update seems to have been some small changes to the DA-62 panel, nothing else. The history file got restored though.
I didnât write the suggestion I linked to.
Probably itâs a typo - âdownloadâ should be written instead of âupdateâ @Hester40MT ?
FYI, what we interpret as âdownloadâ would mean âupdateâ for Asobo.
For testing purposes backup and delete DA-62 folders.

thank you again for your instructions. I checked off all 16 points, it took me awhile, but now the âMandatory Updateâ gets downloaded, the Sim continues to launch, and freezes forever at the New Activities splash screen. The CPU is running nicely but nothing happens. Sorry to bother you again, but there must be another problem. Today the original error message just popped up again. I cannot fly. Just another MS bug that I have to cope with. MS will just not give you correct error messages, they refer you to public forums like this one here.
Have removed all official files to see if a total reload (which comes automatically if anything is missing) and started MSFS. As expected, everything was installed from scratch. Having removed the community folder temporarily, the sim started up normally. So I hope to sort out which community add-on is the culprit if the system should hang again during launch.
FS works but the community items are missing. I have them in the same directory as usual, like so:
C:Users\User\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
(the official and community folder being here)
but there is another folder, which looks not in the right place, that has some items in it, as well, like so:
C:\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
What is going on here? Do I have to delete the second of the above folders?
Check your Usercfg.Opt file
Whatever that is pointing to is what the sim is using.
You donât have to remove what the sim isnât using, but it isnât necessary to keep it.
The entry there is exactly at the right place. The Community folder contains 129 mb of data, about the same as it did before the updates and had emptied the community folder. After renaming it back to its correct name from âBackupCommunityâ - did I make a mistake?
I have experienced this problem a half dozen times this spring/summer. I have tried all the suggested fixes more than onceâall of themâevery tiip/suggestion I could find. Nothing worked for me, had to reinstall each time.
Are your Community folder items showing up in the sim now?
No, still donât
One more check, in Developer Mode in the sim:
See: Developer mode >> Tools >> Virtual File System >> Community folder
That should also spell where it is.
Is it pointing to the same location as the entry in the Usercfg.Opt file?
