I had hoped that the recent updates would gradually iron out the nonsensical mission bugs. The situation after SU2 is as follows: Some inconsistencies have disappeared, but new ones have appeared. I don’t want to list all the mission “surprises” that still exist, perhaps two annoying examples:
After landing clearance and touchdown, the red penalty pilot error message appears: “Entering the runway without permission.”
Or, recently, it’s no longer possible to complete a successful firefighting mission with the AT802 because the engine can’t be shut down (CTRL+Shift+E), the prop keeps spinning, so the mission doesn’t end. And, in the cockpit, the fuel lever can’t be moved to the OFF position.
Or, the given fire-fighting water scooping place is not a lake but a 80 m long fish pond with many individual separated segments for fish farming.
My conclusion: We’ll have to live with this extremely annoying nonsense for a long time. Because I’m sure all missions are generated by AI, so writing new code won’t truly help.
For me one of the biggest problems, as a “cargo pilot”, is that mission generation is completely random and doesn’t take into account the type of aircraft the player may use. More often than not, cargo missions take you to airports (either departure, destination or both) that are simply unfit for your current aircraft. Even medium cargo missions often go to such tiny airstrips where you simply cannot land, or even take off from.
I think mission generation should be restricted by runway type and length, this should’ve been one of the basic principles when designing this mode. What happens now is I have to constantly check the proposed departure and destination airports, and very often I simply have to reject the mission because it takes place at locations where I cannot go. I have no idea how the Career Mode designers thought this would work. Clearly there was not much consideration given to this.
The various operational bugs, the stuck mission steps and the overly confused ATC and all the unjustified “penalties” are just icing on the spoiled cake.
