If the MSFS window has the focus (which is necessary for getting input from the keybaord for instance), then the mirror image shows very bad FPS (the sim is ok). I have to focus the portal itself to get acceptable FPS in the mirror window. Any way to workaround this?
Also, when maximizing the mirror view, it’s clear that its resolution is very bad. Don’t youtubers use this view to record nice videos while VRing?
I think it’s safe to say that MSFS is currently very picky when using VR. Turning on Mixed Reality after MSFS started usually leads to crashes. Starting MSFS from inside Mixed Reality Portal leads to audio or video (or both) missing or crashes. Having Steam open leads to crashes sometimes as well even though SteamVR isn’t running. There is still a way to go to make MSFS a proper Mixed Reality application.
All experiences based on HP Reverb G2 v2 usage.
I have the opposite experience. I load in in 2D mode, switch to VR in MSFS. Then the WMR starts and I get transfered to VR smoothly, including audio. I can make this transition back and forth no problems for many times.

I didn’t mention this case indeed, which is the only way it works reliably. Start MR portal first and but to background, then start MSFS from your ordinary windows desktop (not from MR), then switch on VR in-game.
No, I do it the other way around. Do NOT run WMR. It will start automatically when switching to VR view in MSFS.
And be sure to close WMR when swapping back to 2D mode. FPS improves significantly.
