Lots of FSimStudio “insiders” on sim forums asking us to wait for their release. Give me a break. MK beat them/FlyTampa to the punch. FSimStudios all of a sudden comes out with an “update” and offer to include Mont-Tremblant? Sounds like they were surprised by MK’s release and panicked. On June 27, they responded to a question on their FB page re YUL release being within “weeks”. We are still waiting. Apparently they are only starting the terminal building now. Late Aug or early Sept release? Whatever.
This is the problem with developers. They keep promising us products that never seem to get released in a timely manner. Still waiting for that A380, A220, 732, etc. I don’t need to see another 30 min video from FBW on their paper plane’s wing flex.
We have been waiting for YUL scenery for years now. A relatively good one gets released and FSim “insiders” are trying to convince people not to buy it?
I very much enjoy their YYC, YEG, and YVR. Rather than screwing around with smaller airports like Kelowna, maybe they should have focused on YUL and YYZ in the first place, then work on the others. I am still looking forward to trying out their YUL, but I won’t be holding my breath for their “promised” release date. I bought the MK YUL. When FSim eventually releases their YUL, it will have to be significantly better for me to purchase it. They know that, which is why they are now throwing in Mont-Tremblant. Don’t be surprised if the release date gets pushed out even more.
I’m not going to hold off just because some “insiders” claim their unreleased product is better.
I sincerely hope FSim is not spending their time on these forums trying to convince people not to buy other developers’ products…

I’ll have to try out the update, but the initial release is a stutterfest in a G/A aircraft. Horrible I would say. It does look very good. One of the best looking slide shows yet. I’m on a heavily undervolted X3D, decent OC on Ram, 3090. I’ll have to report back, as they have apparently addressed this in the update. Still, how does it get released like this? Is it being tested on a Dual Epyc, triple 4090 production PC? They do exist

Agreed. Most developers are likely using high-end PCs when testing their products. I have a relatively higher end PC and still had issues with IniBuilds’ Heathrow. I turned off the airport interiors and voila, works great. It would be nice if that option was available for MK’s YUL (if it is, I did not see it). FSimStudios’ YVR can run like a pig as well - apparently it is not optimized for MSFS but is being worked on.

Newest version is as smooth as silk. Hit my fps cap and stays there on the ground, and through take-off

As a Montreal native and someone who flies in and out of CYUL often both as a passenger and a pilot, I completely agree with Karamich.
Also, what’s with not being able to start a flight at an FBO?
That said, I have avoided flying out of YUL in FS2020 since its release because there were no decent sceneries available so I’ll likely buy whatever comes out. As Karamich alluded, it would have been nice to have it all in one great package.
I think FT’s was the ‘all-in-one package’. Surely there’s still a market for theirs, at 60% completion? They now actually have the upper hand in being able to fully evaluate the competition.

Another thing to note is that since I chose to use the BMWorld/AMSim version of CYUL , I noticed a couple of glitches (Texutes missing, floating roof installation etc).
On the OrbX product page, the only support available is a direct link to the AMSim webpage and then the only way to report the glitches or bugs is through an email address. No forums or Discord as far as I could see…
So I sent an email to report the bugs but I did not get any feedback yet (since 4 days ago…)
BMWorld/AMSim CYUL has an update on OrbX Central (1.2.0) but no release notes to know what was updated or fixed
They just dropped CYYC for Xbox in the Marketplace. Issues sorted?
Both versions of CYUL are also now on sale for Xbox - which do you guys think is best, now you’ve had a week or so to have a play? Is FSimStudios’ version likely to be better?
Hopefully FlyTampa will have a change of heart and release theirs… it would have been my first choice and I’d certainly have waited.

Can’t speak to anything XBOX related, I would put my money FSS will be better than the other 2 released and on par with FlyTampa.
Please we get Tremblant with it.

Just found this comparison video:
BMW/Amsim seems to only strike a win in the landside department. Their textures overall look a bit crisper to me too, but not as much total detail as MK.
No mention of performance, unfortunately - MK’s better overall detail will be a moot point if the BMW/Amsim is smoother (or more stable, if we’re talking Xbox). Also no reference to surrounding detail, save for the spotters’ park. I personally find VFR POIs on finals very immersive.
Bear in mind that both have been updated recently and we don’t know if this video deals with the latest versions. I believe all HSBC logos have recently been removed from the airbridges so that’s another win for MK.

I just can’t decide which one to get! Since you have both, which would you recommend, all things considered? I do like airport perimeter detail and POIs in the vicinity but both seem to have the eastern maintenance and southern commercial/industrial areas pretty well modelled. BM/Amsim has a really pretty Air Inuit sign outside their HQ but MK might well have it too? That’s the sort of detail I really enjoy.
MK’s terrain modelling is better, though, you say?
Both have of course recently been updated so the comparison may now be different?
I am now using the BMWorld one and I really like it especially after their latest update 1.2.0 I believe. I used to like the ditches / terraforming of MK version and now the BMW one has these subtle terrain variations as well… Also a few fixes mentioned on the OrbX page.

Superb, that’s great to know, thanks. The only other thing the MK seems to have over BMW is the inclusion of snow mounds in the winter but that’s not a deal-breaker. I hear MK can be a stutter-fest whereas BMW’s is (unusually for them) pretty smooth?
I’m likely going to wait for FSimStudios version but it’s good that I can virtually rule out MK.
BMW is giving me a fair performance considering my high settings and FSLTL .
Yes MK have the snow mounds or even the construction areas with machinery and little sand mounds etc.
I do not know if BMW added their ditches and subtle terraforming after seeing what MK did or following feedback. Because I sent AMSim a support email to report a few bugs (they fixed) and suggested also the ditches and other variations.
So perhaps they will add the snow mounds or perhaps not because it could be seen as copying? Who knows!

So one thing that is slightly annoying by the MK Studios version is it seems to have no airline gate asignments, that is US carriers appear in the domestic wing of the terminal and vice-versa, as well as the gates by the Aeroquay satellite terminal are designated as GA Avition parking stands, thus preventing regional commercial planes from spawning there. On top of this, all the gates in the international wing are designated as “Small” Gates, when they IRL they are used by heavies.
Minor things, but it does detract from the immersion, particularly if you are quite familiar with the airport IRL.

I like the scenery, but they need to issue a patch to deal with the insanely bumpy taxiways.
have you tried writing to them so they can change/ fix this?
Still waiting…
FSimStudios claimed to be “within weeks” of release of their YUL back in July. Other developers beat them to the punch in August. They quickly post on FB that their version of YUL will be released end of August/beginning of Sept. Still nothing. A few people have posted on their FB page looking for an update, but FSimStudios have ghosted them.
Very disappointing to see FSimStudios turn into another Aerosoft. Stop promising the community a release is imminent when in fact it isn’t. If they were close, I’m sure they would have provided an update or responded to their customers’ questions on their FB page, but instead have chosen to ignore them.
My advice to those waiting for YUL is to purchase it from another developer. Their YYC is very good. The quality of their work is not the issue. Leading their customers on is. It is an issue many developers in the flight sim community do, and it seems FSimStudios is no different.
While I agree with you sort of wanting to punish the dev for the misleading promises, unless you’re impatient or an impulse buyer, it wouldn’t hurt to wait for FSimStudios’ version to see what they’ve managed to do better. I’d be pretty annoyed had I bought one of the other two, only to find the third and latest is in fact the best.
