Monitor not waking with MSFS24 minimised

Let’s take a closer look at CPU downclocking. I’ve got my power plan set to Ultimate for my 7900x3d which looks like this:

So therefore, one would think I’m running my CPU b*lls to the wall with no cores sleeping or parked. In looking at the CPU core clocks, this seems to be verified:

However, looking at the core clocks is not accurate as it doesn’t take into account any CPU core sleep states. So, looking at the core effective clocks which take into account sleep states it looks like this:

So when my PC is just browsing the internet as I’m doing right now, the CPU is barely working (CPU utilization 1-3%). If you start MSFS the CPU utilization will go up to 20-40%. Given my aggressive settings cores are never parked however they are downclocked. Does it waste energy going “full out” - nope.

Edit: Btw - all of the Amd x3d cpu’s are very power efficient with the 7800x3d the most efficient.

I thought the power plans in this context affected the gpu clock too?

Please note that this effective value is the average clock across the polling interval used in HWiNFO

That said, users tend to be afraid of Windows power plans for no good reason - but there’s really no need to worry. The real thing to be cautious about is BIOS settings, as they have the most significant impact on how our CPUs operates. Even a well-configured power plan won’t do much if the BIOS is set up in a way that prevents those clocks from dropping.

I don’t believe the power plans affect the gpu clock(s).
