Since this update I have found things to be more blurry not so far into the distance why is this? Buildings, lights, terrain and airports
Agreed. The ground textures get so blurry so fast. What is going on?
I just got my Vive Pro 2 and really looked forward to using it in MSFS, but while it unquestioningly helped clarify the instrument panel, it has revealed how poor distance draw is on this simulator in VR at Render Scale 100 and actually, IMO, reduces the immersion compared to my Index. It’s like the close-up world is photorealistic but that some Minecraft world is off in the distance with everything made out of little blocks. And even in the foreground, the scenery–while again photorealistic–has an overall blur that the reduction of SDE in the new headset seems to make even more obvious, with seemingly no increase in actual resolution at all. In every other sim I play, including DCS, XP, VTOL, and Assetto Corsa distance draw and overall sharpness from foreground to background has improved on this HMD, sometimes dramatically, while not loosing any playability (or even improving fps, since I can now run them with lower SS). With all this said though, pushing Render Scaling way, way up does improve distance scaling, however, to reach a level of sharpness that matches this headset, without some kind of optimization I think I’d need a Core i11 and 5090 to run smoothly at those levels, and I’m not exaggerating.
Same. Using my Reverb G2 in MSFS is like waking up first thing in the morning and opening your eyes and everything is all blurry. Only it stays that way. Cockpit instruments unreadable. Outside the cockpit is just a blurry mess. I thought a RTX 2080 Super with a bit of tweaking could get reasonably good performance, but I’ve tried every trick I’ve seen and nothing makes any more than a marginal improvement. I’m going to go try it in xplane and see how it does there. So disappointing.
The interesting thing in XP, is that on my Index, if I was going on a causal VFR flight in a Cessna, I tended to fly at around 2000-2500 feet. No particular reason, it just felt “right” at that altitude. However, after several days flying with the VP2, it suddenly occurred to me that I was flying at 5000-6000 feet. When I assessed this, I realized that it was because I was now seeing similar detail at the higher altitude to what I had been seeing at the lower altitude previously. It’s quite a distinct difference–not enough to knock my socks off–but a genuine and worthwhile improvement whose practical benefits grow on you. In MSFS, however, I’m not feeling any difference from before in terms of altitude. In fact, if MSFS was all I used in VR, I’d say, stick with a Quest; you’ll be just as happy.
