More realistic passing by sounds / engines sounds

Hi !

I finally subscribed to this forum that I used to read sometimes.

Since I’m reading the different wishes you guys have, I have never seen anything about the engine sounds when we use the drone cam / external view.

The sim is really great (I’m a beginner, less than 100 hours ingame until today), but I really don’t like the sounds we hear from the engines of any plane when we use those cams. They seem really poor, compared to what we can hear when we are under a taking-off A320, with this really loud noise of power.

Same for a propeller plane when they pass in front of you.

I know this is a sim, but to compare with some racing car games that I own (Project Cars for example), when I use the replay function, the sound we can hear from the cars are changing, depending of the possition the car is from us (coming, passing and going away).

It would be really nice to have this in MSFS too. Today, it’s like the microphone is always following the plane, we don’t ear this “distorded flanger” sound (I don’t know if this is the correct term, but it reminds me of some effects we use with music instruments  )

An example of what I mean :

Thank you for reading this post, and thank you for this flight simulation, which is really fun to use !

I really miss this special Sound that make the Difference. Influenced by Weather ,Terrain and Distance makes the Sound more Real Life and should be wonderful for more Immersion.

It really depends on the Aircraft which you’re using. For example the F-16 sounds amazing in drone camera mode. Tried it yesterday with a friend of mine. the 3D sound of this thing is amazing.
I think it depends if the aircraft has the Wwise Sound engine or not.

Thank you for your reply

This is exactly what I mean, even if in this video, the sound comes too early for certain parts of it, but the idea is here. We don’t have this native feature in MSFS, even if we can use an addon, it’s always one more addon to manage, with probably some update problems, this could be really nice to have this builtin the sim.

I only use builtin aircraft (except a Spitfire, but same problem here, a grassclipper would fly in front of me, the sound would be better

What F-16 model do you use ?

SC Design F-16

The scientific name is the Doppler Effect

TLDR: Something moving towards you makes higher pitched sounds. When next to you makes normal sounds. And when moving away from you makes lower pitched sounds.

Well, I typically try my best to make the best possible flyby audio. It depends on who makes the sounds. Here are some examples.

And here’s a 172 example to mix it up.

Just requires some tweaking and fiddling with ground reflections, some cones, and a good exhaust loop (which I had some trouble with, but once you find a good one, you’re good). Really helps that after the heli update Asobo added the variable for ground reflection that we can use in wwise which makes you able to have that comb filter reflection off of the ground.
