Mouse freelook: stop and go

requesting right mouse double click function
for stop-and-go the freelook.

how it should work:
right double click = freelook
right click = stop freelook

background:

switching from looking around to clicking cockpit buttons should be one process.

it is an essential part of the piloting experience not to interrupt fly-look-instrument use
caused by hardware assignment limitations.

i use the mouse for looking around with my left hand on the table,
i do that when the throttle - also on the left side underknief the table is set to a stabile speed.
so my left hand travels between keyboard, mouse and throttle.
my right hand is bound to the Flight control stick.

to minimize uncomfortable acrobatics between the peripherals when changing from look around to handling instrument knobs, a mouse double click is the perfect solution.

“hold” - which is part of current assignments, is never a good solution, it is unpractible and binds the pilot’s attention and allows only incremental look around.

freelook to an instrument, stop it and do the thing you wanna do, then continue freelook immediately,
that’s how it should work.

such a stop and go freelook is not assignable yet in FS, and the (HOLD) requirement is very hated by users.

so what would you need to change?

current key assignment option:

MOUSE/CAMERA/COCKPIT CAMERA/
TOGGLE COCKPIT VIEW FREELOOK (HOLD)

should be changed into:

MOUSE/CAMERA/COCKPIT CAMERA/
COCKPIT VIEW FREELOOK* - double click right mouse button
COCKPIT VIEW PAUSE FREELOOK* - click right mouse button

this works in the cockpit, just like with all external views.

In the unthinkable event of double click not being an option you want to chose, alternatively provide the following solution instead:

TOGGLE COCKPIT VIEW FREELOOK - click right mouse button

This tiny simple correction of the key assignment environment can improve the users experience as a hole for the next ten years.

As part of this freelook request i propose the speed being raised by 10-20%, hand-eye coordination should be in perfect syncronisation, the feel of moving the mouse on the desk should translate in how much it actually moves the view in the game. one should not be slower than the other.

Thank you very much for taking this into consideration.

P.S. if my request is unclear, check out X-Plane where this stop-and-go function is default and makes the crowds happy.

O.K. I can not move with the mouse (hold) in free cockpit and external view. I tried all settings… :frowning: In the in game menu camera settings, i can not select to free view. Only fixed view is possible.

Hi! I also have the Freelook “problem”. No problem until rhe last release. Have tried all sort of things and “solutions” some users found in the forum. Nothing works. Cannot “FREELOOK”. I believe that this system is really a WIP and many glitches have to be accepted. But something that prevents you to play someting you payed for is simply NOT ACCEPTABLE. Microsoft/Asobo probably do not even look at this forum. It they dis, they would have a REAL SOLUTION (insteas of the litte tricks posted in the forum) to solve the problem.

I JUST FIGURED IT OUT ! CLICK ESCAPE go to general, go to camera, scroll down to cockpit camera section expand it and look at the last option just before INSTRUMENTS section, its a new thing I think called TRUE COCKPIT VIEW i turned it OFF and then my middle scroll wheel is behaving as I wanted, toggling Freelook on/off, and lets you regain mouse cursor control…as of Dec 3 2020 anyway :slight_smile

will try this!
thanks for pursuing

Did it work for you as well ?

just realising, you refer to “middle scrolling”.
that does not quite match my proposal for right double click.
havn’t tried yours yet, but i don’t expect it to be THE solution.

I tried everything and everything else I could find on the internet. Nothing helped.
Any idea? Game is unplayable for me right now

Did you get/found any solution?

Yepp,
But I can’t say exactly what helped.
When reinstalling MSFS, the program kept my settings.
So this doesn’t help.
But, I changed all possible view settings again and again until it worked somehow.
I am not at my PC right now, but I remeber it was the number of settings you find, when you google this freelook issue.

Microsoft/Asobo really needs to fix this â– â– â– â–  with the camera. 've never seen so many complaints about an issue with the any other sim.
