My internal SSD (C:) is almost full despite deleting everything that’s not related to MSFS 2020. I have an external SSD (D:) and I would like to move my community folder there since some of the mods and add-ons are quite large. Is this possible and how do I do it? I’m not terrible with computers but I’m just scared to mess something up. I understand it should be possible to just move the folder there but will the simulator know that my add-ons are now on D: instead of C:?
It’s fairly simple (outside of using addon linker).
Which version are you using (Steam or MS Store?)
I’m using the Steam version.
You can also use a symbolic link. It’s just like a shortcut to another place that the application won’t notice.
So to be safe,
I would Copy / Paste your Packages folder where you want it and then rename the original to something like Packages_Bak
It is found in C:\Users\YourProfile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator
Also in that directory, make a backup of UserCfg.opt
Lastly, open UserCfg.opt and scroll all the way to the bottom until you see this line;
InstalledPackagesPath “C:\Users\SkypilotYTS\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages”
Update it with the new path to your Packages folder, save and launch the sim to test.
If you want to revert back, copy the backed up UserCfg.opt file over the one you just edited and rename your Packages_Bak folder back to Packages.
I hope that helps.
That depends on the version. Store/Steam/Disc is all different.
No need for that. Just open MS and when it wants to update, point it to the new location by setting the download folder to the new location.
Which is why I asked earlier in the thread which version he is on, to which he replied Steam
I should read the whole thread before replying, shouldn’t I?
It happens to all of us, often lol.
