Move MSFS failed - are there manual steps required?

Hi,

I tried to move my MSFS installation to another SDD, using the “Move” option in the Apps Control Panel. This failed though, what happened is that it copied a only a few GB of data to the new location, but not the big chunk. Also nothing more happened after a few hours of waiting. Launched the game then, this worked, and it asked me for the installation path (which was the root cause for the move - my current SDD is full). I told it the new location, and it started then downloading basically the whole installataion - more than 100 GB. After install, I could play the game. But it still seems to use the data in the old location, because whenever I make the old folders disappear (by renaming), the game does not start anymore.

So bottom line - using the app move function I ended up with a somewhat partial move, but still dependency on the files in the original location.
Any idea what went wrong here? Would somebody have the full clean procedure how to truly move the whole thing using this function? Are there further manual steps required?

I should add that I had the original installation not on drive C:, but used drive I:. So some basic stuff is on C: as usual, that’s ok. I’m not touching C:, but I want to replace I:.

Found some threads already related to moving the installation, but none with this problem here…

Thanks!

Many moves with the FS app “move” command with no problems.

Give us a screenshot of the last line of your UserCfg.opt file.

And a screenshot of your I: drive via File Explorer.

Hi,

problem is solved from my end, thanks for offering help. I changed plans and went for a complete re-install instead of trying to fix the old one. Having read that this can be shortened dramatically by just kicking-off the new installation process, and then cancel and just copy over the OneStore directory, I tried this and it worked perfectly - complete re-install and back in the air in less than an hour (not counting the copy-time for the 120GB OneStore-files to the new SDD which I did before).

So we can close this from my perspective, would still be interesting to know though why the “Move” command did not do its job here. Maybe it only works well when using the standard installation paths on C:.…
