Was hoping to discuss MSFS 2024 launch week and beyond with other people on Xbox. Didn’t see much discussion happening for ‘console simmers’ whether new, returning or regulars, so here’s a thread. Time will tell how much of a fringe group I’m part of on this forum.
I did enjoy MSFS 2020 3 years ago and even picked up an Xbox HOTAS. Wasn’t very good at it. Much of the sim went over my head. Hoping that ‘Career Mode’ will help me be better at it this time.
I returned to MSFS a few years ago when it came to Xbox. Twenty or more years ago I had MSFS on PC and a small flight deck built in the attic, but that went away when we moved and I didn’t rebuild it in the new place. As an inactive instrument rated private pilot IRL, the past few years in 2020 on Series X have been a great joy amid many small frustrations as the thing grew up. As a way to perhaps relive my flight training days, I will give Career mode a try either in my old haunt or perhaps a new home base to “begin anew.” I’m going to do some free flights first to get my hardware squared away and check out which airport to begin a career with. Will probably do some flying in 2020 along the way, as I have many add ons that will not be around for a while in 2024. It’s all good. Good flying!
Have been flying on Microsoft Flightsim since just after covid. Have an Xbox series X and did have an old gaming laptop but that struggled a bit. Am 77 years old so can’t afford a new gaming machine so the Xbox hopefully should be good. I have been playing it on my Lenovo Legion Go and that runs it quite well but it may struggle with 2024. Have bought the Aviator edition so plenty of choice to fill my time.
Hopefully they will allow us to set graphics parameters etc ourselves, we need more room for those who want a simulator experience with better graphics and those who prefer decent performance without the great graphics. Right now everything is adjusted automatically which is terrible because it goes to drastically decrease the graphics to get decent performance on high fidelity aircraft like pmdg, just flight etc. And yet the performance is not that good
At the beginning as I said on consoles it was running beautifully, with various updates everything went downhill, I’m surprised you don’t know this, are you from Xbox ? If yes you should know about all these problems during this year. There are dozens of threads complaining about problems like these on Xbox. If we complain it means that it was fine before, we were given a different sim at the beginning than this one we have now
There’s lot wrong with this statement, not the least of which is “1/10 the cost of a good gaming PC.” A 1TB Series X is about $450. You don’t need a $4,500 PC to get good FS2020 performance. Not by a long shot. Or even a $3,000 PC. Just as an FYI.
While I don’t sim on console regularly, I have goofed around doing VFR stuff in the past causally and it was a fine experience. I’m sure FS2024 will be better.
OP states this is an Xbox related thread. Please let’s not start another PC vs. Xbox thread! It has been done so many times before elsewhere and there is no need for another. Thanks folks! Good flying today and good luck with installations tomorrow!
I junked my last gaming PC some 15 years ago and whilst I cheerfully admit that places me firmly in the ‘vanilla lane’, I truly don’t miss the ‘hassle’ that being a PC owner can necessitate. My first FS was FS 3.0 in 1988, so from that perspective, the Xbox version is awesome on a stick. Best success and wishes to the PC fraternity of course.
Back in 2021 I got the hang of take-offs and landings pretty well (in small aircraft), heading East from the UK and after a couple of hundred landings making it to Japan before calling MSFS 2020 a day.
So here we are again, this time, particularly with the ‘Career Mode’ in mind, I want to learn to do it better.
Anyone else here that like me will literally be launching it on an Xbox tomorrow?
That guy knows nothing, not even worth a response.
As you say on console performance and graphics where there at one time, it was fairly stable and we could have some excellent flights even in the complex aircraft available on xbox, at the same time it looking beautiful as well.
Its only later SU updates that it started to go backwards, not so much in performance, but graphically.
@SofaJockey series x player, ready for 2024 tomorrow!, though I can’t have a good go until the weekend. Im sort of a regular, I stepped back from 2020 a few months ago, with 2024 on the horizon I sort of wanted to take a break form 2020, purchased 2024 the other day.
I have been using Microsoft simulator on PC from version 3.0 to FSX. Started using Xbox when 2020 came out. Blown away. Those of us that are long time users recognize the progress that has been made. There are some issues yes, but still a great game.
I have a computer quite capable of running 2024 but will stick with the xbox. I don’t want to be bothered with graphic settings, tweaking, folder manipulation, etc. I use all of the world updates, a few add-on airports, and a few scenery updates, but mostly fly GA aircraft. There could be improvements and they will come. In the meantime having a ball.
To me MSFS is a game, one of my hobbies, not a life. There are a number of other games on Xbox which I also play. Bought the premium deluxe version and looking forward to 2024. Compared to the price of some games it is not overly expensive. If it is not bug free and doesn’t work well on day one, I will still have 2020 until it is fixed.
KDTW-KLGA (both add ons) this morning in the PMDG 737-700 on a flight plan that I “dispatched” to myself in Navigraph then downloaded to the FMC in SimBrief. Very smooth and satisfying flight with a strong tailwind. On the blocks at Delta in LaGuardia my 2020 logbook hit exactly 1,000 hours. This was my goal, to get to 1,000 hours in 2020 before tomorrow.
Now planning KMSP-KJFK to take advantage of that wicked jet stream in the PMDG 77W. Pilot life can be very good indeed on Series X with the right stuff and positive attitude. Recall that Attitude + Power = Performance; I think this also applies to having fun in the sim as well as hand flying an airplane. These are great days we are living folks, keep 'em flying on through 2024!
I’ve been simming on Series X since about March last year. Since then I’ve probably been flying most days, learning the 737 and sightseeing with the Cessna. I have just been flying with the Xbox controller and a mouse and keyboard. I will probably ask the wife to get me a flight stick and some rudder pedals for Christmas to use on the new version. Overall I’ve been pretty happy with how the SIM runs on the series x. I used to have a PC years ago and Flight SIM 95, which back then I thought was amazing. Seeing how far it has come since then was unimaginable back in the 90s.
Happy flying Xbox pilots I hope you all enjoy the new SIM tomorrow!
I used to play way back in the day on my old Tandy (!) computer; I remember taking off from Meigs Field and looking at all of the rectangles and triangles and thinking how great this was!. After a time, though, real life intervened, and I moved on to other things.
Then came covid, then retirement, and one day I just happened upon a random Youtube video about MSFS; I didn’t even know that this was still a thing! Naturally, my interest was peaked, so I sought out some more videos and began to see how extensive flight simming had become. After much deliberation, I decided that it was Xbox Series X for me (never owned a gaming system before). I will admit, it was somewhat daunting at first, but tutorials helped a great deal, and I’m having a great time with it. Moved up to the “next level” and got the PMDG 737-800; a large learning curve, but I feel quite confident now. I ordered the Collector’s Edition on the day it was announced, so I’m most certainly looking forward to tomorrow.
Question: I didn’t receive anything physical as of yet. Does anyone know if they are going to send out a code or anything?
Started simming on a pc back in 1995 with FS5.1 which was followed by FS95, FS98 and FS2000. I then took a 20 year break from flying when it became clear that my dream of being an airline pilot wasn’t happening
Returned to flying by chance with an Xbox series S just over 2 years ago (October 2022) using the Xbox controller. Quickly got myself a Hotas One a few months later followed by a keyboard and mouse and a much needed upgrade to the Series X. Then finally the TFRP rudder pedals to complete the setup.
Racked up nearly 1800 hours flying time on 2020 and excited to carry on with 2024. I’m hopeful the career mode will help people like yourself get some good in depth knowledge that will help with their flying. But still the best thing I ever did was a Boeing 737 training simulator experience. Learnt more in that hour than I had learnt in years of reading and video watching
In the absence of that, there are no shortage of people on this forum and various Facebook groups that can answer any questions you might have and help you get the most out of it
Ascent Aviation in Glasgow, Scotland. An incredible experience - would love to do it again now that I know a lot more about flying airliners but it’s quite expensive to do
1300hrs on Xbox here with the majority done after SU15 once the black screens got fixed. The sim works well and 2024 should be even better given all the talk about memory optimisation. I had FSX on PC 15yrs ago loved it and the PMDG 747 400. I’ve always had a console, love GTA and sports career modes and with GTA6 coming won’t be buying a PC for MSFS.
Keen for career mode and the pre flight planning EFB. Will spend the first few hours mapping my controls and camera views, then jump into career mode trying to get to medivac or VIP Bizz jet pilot ASAP. Spend a good time in this space before embarking on commercial airliner pilot then spend almost my entire time in career mode like I did free flight with 2020
