Someone or something wiped my entire local cache folder at 8.37am today. Not just individual content but everything that was in the folder, the directory was completely empty. And that without even looking at msfs 2020, let alone having started it. The only thing I have done this time and during the whole session is to write a contribution in a completely different forum (music instruments).
A very interesting form of life of its own.
Are you using a library manager, or were you a beta tester?
Simming is a way of life indeed. Takes more maintenance skills than any other game, I think. That said: msfs2020 does do a fine job in being reachable for people with varying levels of experience.
To address your issue. Did you happen to be in the beta? If so AND if you had the sim installed in the default location, chances are that it was completely wiped automatically.
If you installed in a custom folder all you need to do is browse to this location when the installer asks you to. Then, after 15 mins or so, the install will jump back from 115 something gib to 500 kib.
This sounds more as a general PC problem (software, OS or even a hardware fault). If you do not start MSFS, it canāt delete itself ⦠there must be either some user interaction with the directory or there is a Disk failure - in fact there are numerous possibilities why you got your MSFS install deleted.
No, really, the sim CAN wipe itself when youāre automatically kicked off a beta. Even when you donāt start msfs. I think this has to do with the setting in the store to automatically install updates. Multiple users report this issue every time that a beta flight comes to a close.
No
Yes (see below).
@ GhostlyFrend
Probably it is a effect of the beta, I didānt leave it and the patch is now public for a while and maybe xboxhub kicked me out by order and wiped my settings.
Strange behavior anyway
@WildTapestry269
Only my local cache was wiped, the installation stays in custom location.
The beta was officially finished jan 13th. Everybody who didnāt opt out at that moment was booted automatically and forced back on the main build.
Settings have been wiped for me too. That has been always the case on moving back to live. One of the setbacks of participating in betas. At least you had a custom location you could point the installer to.
Sometimes computers who are not treated with enough love come to live and seek for revenge.
Have you looked long enough at your casemod with loving and caring eyes / positive facial expression? (At least five minutes of daily admiring your casemod while whispering āyou are beautyful!ā is enough for 90% of all computers, but some really great casemods want even more.)
Are you talking enough with your computer?
Are all your RGB lights configured in perfect harmony, or are there colour discrepancies somewhere?
Do you have a child or a pet? Computers can get jealous sometimes when they feel neglected.
And the most important thing:
Have you promised your computer to buy a new graphics card for his or her next birthday?
And in other postings I have read that the Beta version was removed and changed (or even re-installed) with a 115GB updates some time ago, maybe it was because of that.
Ok this might be a quirk of the infamous MS store. I am glad I purchased the sim via steam and need not think about update problems. All updates so far went very smooth for me⦠and when I read the forums for the majority of steam users as well ⦠unfortunately the ms store is VERY buggy and I can NOT recommend to by anything via MS store
The sim itself can only corrupt its file when running.
The MS store can corrupt the install any time.
That was I meant previously
I see, but the local cache should be wiped anyway after an update. The content could be outdated in comparison to the files on the server - this can cause major problems.
