MSFS 2020 CTDs Continue for Me

Hi All,
My CTDs began around the MSFS 2020 issues appears 11/30/24 2200z. While it appears others have been able to access the sim, my CTDs continue to happen with zero success since the outage.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
When loading into MSFS 2020, and after the update check, the sim will load the world update slides and enhancement screenshots, the audio will stutter, and a CTD will occur without any error message presented. On occasion, and seem to be related to a system change (new GPU driver install for instance), I can get to the menu, however, upon clicking ANY button, the sim with CTD.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
I have done the following:
-Removed community folder contents
-cleared caches (never done this before now)
-completed a clean uninstall of GPU drivers with DDU and reinstalled known working drivers
-Ran as administrator
-Ran in safe mode online and offline

Same issue for me. Still no luck starting FS2020 since 11/30

It may be related to this:

  • I cannot login to the xbox app on PC (XBOX hangs up when I try to do this).
  • Cannot get into MS Store. It reports a problem, that “they” are aware of it and working on it

Same exact thing here, cannot use DX12 in MSFS 2020 since installing MSFS2024. Usually get a CTD either on the runway or shortly after taking off. Nothing abnormal showing with ram, vram, cpu, etc. Works perfectly fine in DX11. Uninstalled MSFS 2024, tried rolling back drivers and DLSS, no luck. All started after installing MSFS 2024, everything worked perfectly until then and no changes to community folder since. Crash report is useless if it doesn’t give any indication of what is causing the CTDs.

After about 8 hrs of screwing with this, discovered several Windows Updates that happened on 11-19. Coincidence that these happened the same day as installing 2024? I think not. Anyway, I uninstalled these updates, rebooted and Presto, DX12 is working normally again in MSFS 2020, at least for the last 30 minutes and at several airports, with different aircraft and weather, so fingers crossed for now.

Well that was short lived. CTDs back now. Looks like a complete Windows and MSFS reinstall is unavoidable now. Funny how something that was working so well is totally screwed now. MSFS 2024 is possibly the worst title ever launched, but the fact that it screwed up 2020 is beyond comprehension.

Apparently I solved my problem. Uninstalled my virus scanner (K…y). MS Store, Xbox app, and FS2020 seem to be working normally now. Did not yet try a flight, though…

Same problem here (location: Denmark). The whole of december and right until now nothing but CTDs. One time I managed to stay connected for a longer time, which enabled me to choose OFFLINE flying - did not help. On one occasion there were some strange updating/configuring screens. Since then the premium deluxe planes have disappeared, even if I paid for the premium delux version. Normally the CTD happens before the welcome screen is shown, on rare occasions I can select a departure location, a plane - and then a crash. I have not been able to use the game properly since the end of november 2024. Could anybody explain how to get a refund? I have given up using the game ( I have tried several times a day for more than a month now) . My suspicion: they use the servers for 2024 and want everybody to use 2024. if this is so, it will be the most outrageous perverted action any software company has ever taken - I just cannot find other words for such an inferior and mean behaviour. I requested an update for all 2020 users to enable us to fly OFFLINE, it can be done. Maybe they will, maybe not, probably the latter, because they want to - obviously - force us to buy MS2024. Shame on this company from the bottom of my heart

When i went to file a Zendesk ticket, i came across a link that said certain i9 13th gen and 14th gen CPus’ may be defective or damaged from over volting by certain Asus motherboards. Zendesk suggested updating BIOS asap, or if that doesnt work, to get a replacement CPU.

So i opened a ticket with Intel, and got my replacement i9-13900K CPU yesterday. I replaced my old CPU with this one. Incidentally, i felt like two of my memory sticks were VERY VERy slightly not fully seated in their slots. When i pressed down on them, i heard a satisfying click.

Today there was also a small update to the sim. Anyway, i have FINALLY completed two full flights of FS2024 and they were rock solid and smooth from start to finish! I also went into VR, and there were no CTD’s there either!

Previously i also would have to reboot my PC after a long flight [ as if i didnt, my PC would crash]. But this time. I flew 2 VFR flights in VR, without rebooting my PC and both were smoot hand rock solid!

The error code i would get in Event Viewer was always the 0xc00005 error.

So for other with the Intel i9-13 or i9-14oo CPU’s look into this issue. Also make sure your RAM is seated well in the slots.

Good luck!

Same issue here, MSFS will no longer launch since I installed MSFS 2024.
