All the things you mention do nothing, except lowering performance of the sim without any extra immersion. Roads look horrible and unrealistic in Xplane, especially with ortho imagery, just like Xplane autogen, just dreadful and wrong. The size is wrong in Xplane streets making it look terribly cartoonish and like games from 2004, the buildings are even worse. Austin thinks this adds to immersion, I think it looks horrible and outdated and adds nothing to the sim.
As undoubtedly beautiful MSFS 2020 can be, I’ve seen too many terrible texture issues to feel completely in love with the sim. Ugly visual artifacts (baked-in clouds and cloud shadows, the complete absence of consistency in tones/time of day between some texture tiles, etc), some truly awful low res textures in more remote regions, unpolished scenery generally in anything but the most popular destinations, etc, etc. Maybe time will solve all that.
XP11 - in its present form - won’t ever have the real-world textures to compete with MSFS 2020, but it does have internal and visual consistency, at the very least. Even the ‘out of the box’ vanilla version manages to look very impressive, imo. These days - especially if you’re running the Public Beta with Vulcan drivers - it runs really well, too.
Room for both sims in my world. XP12 might yet surprise us all.
I don’t wanna play XP11 anymore, even if MSFS is lacking some important things, I can see the potential, this is the future !!!
But I’m thinking on going to the XP forums to complain about all the issues the game has, just for pissing them off
Thank you all for your opinions.
