The same for me it’s been like this for a month now. I’ve tried completely reinstalling several times and still no joy

Uninstall the NVIDIA app then restart PC – this step is required.
Just to be clear: uninstall only the NVIDIA app, not the driver.
If it works, I’ll send you the full explanation and what’s causing the issue.

right now MSFS2020 starts normal with the nVidia App installed.
So i am not sure if this could be the Problem.
When it stops working again, i will try uninstalling the nVidia App and come back to you.

Did you by any chance activate DirectX 11 AND do you use the Nvidia App?
The two don‘t go together and MSFS2020 crashes before fully loading. If that is your case, there is a simple remedy. Let me know and I will dig up the solution (it‘s somewhere on the forum)

to be more precise, during the 16th of Juily (European time schedule), I did some experiment with the video setting inside the game. all of these setitng had some effect on the Nvidia card and microprocessor; during these experiment the Nvidia app was unsinstalled, adriext X 12 in use , still in use now.
My system is:
Nvidia RTX 4060
Intel Core i5 -9600KF@3.70Ghz
32GB of Ram.
Yesterday morning (the 17th by the way) I decided to try at last to use the default setting proposed by the Nvidia app (reinstalled).
Then I launched the FS2020 app and after about 20 TO25 seconds as mentioned in my previous post I got the message telling me the the game stopped with error code:
0x0000005 followed by an icon to click on. clicking on this I con open some kind help center from the Xbox application, but there are so much thing to try or to do that it is far out side of my skill level in computer science…I am not a geek, but just a guy flying with Flight simulator for the last 40 years.

Hello, from what I could see while trying to solve the problem,
by clicking on error message, it drive me to the error module of the X box software . it seems that the version I had was not correct. I followed the instructions to get the right (last I hope) version, got new version number ; but there no improvemnt at all.
From all the message I could read in the various “explanation” from Windows and Microsoft, it seems to my mind that Microsoft want me to switch to the newer Windows version, I mean Windows 11.
I am not sure for now but from the Windows and Microsoft point of view, My computer (5 years old ) Working perfectly for any common use and FS 2020, will to be thrown away just because a few news modules in X box, Windows 11 may not works properly on my "old " system !
Once again, I use to run my computer with the task manager in view just to keep an eye on the microprocessor and video card activities. with FS 2020, the Micro processor is at about 50% of activity and same for the video card. when running common apps loke Office the activity is not higher that 5% at max.
So it is absolutely out of question for me to buy a new computer just for the comfort of a new operating system that will appear to be full of bugs as its have been for the 30 years or so.
and on top of this I don’t have the budget !
All these complains are not on FS 2020 of course.
So my last try will be to try to step back in software version of the Nvidia driver to see if it can help.
If anyone could provide a solutions to avoid the FS 2020 to require Xbox app running for being able to run, it would be welcome too.

Can you check the usercfg.opt file and look for the line that say PreferD3D12? What number is next to it - 0 or 1? It’s probably around the 33rd line from the top
hello Ten Patrol, I had a look yesterday, the setting is set for Direct X 12.
The Nvidia driver was the last version (576.88), I just installed the previous one (576.80) to try , but I did not yet. any way, I doubt of any good result as FS 2020 ran perfectly until my last attemp on the 16tu of July.
I recommend creating a new thread for your game issue - each case can be different, even if they look similar. Once you’ve posted it, ping me and send me the link to your thread.

since my last update, I found on an other topic drived by yourself, this one:
MSFS2020 crashes on startup - #3 by TenPatrol.
it mention that deleting a certain directory in the Nvidia app (NGX) could help.
I first deleted the directory and FS2020 completed its starting correctly.
I tested this for 2 or 3 times with succesfull results.
Then I uninstalled the N vidia app anfd FS2020 still looks to be back to a decent behaviour.
There is anyway a curious effect on my computer:
I use to turn on Task Manager to keep an eye on the Microprocessor and Nvidia GPU status (mainly the percentage of activity) while using FS2020.
Before all these trouble, the average activity of the Micro proc was varying from about 50%
To about 85% and the Nividia device GTX 4060 was at about 50 to 70 percent.
After my last successful experiment,
The microproc is at approximately the same pace or a little bit higher, but the Nvidia in only at 3 to 5% !
I did several change in the video parameters, but it does not seems to make any change in Nvidia activity. do you have any idea on what happened ?
From my almost 70 years old eyes, the quality of the image I got on my monitor is just as before .
My monitor is a MSI curved monitor with 2560x1440 pixels.

The graphics acceleration was turned off in the Windows settings.
Normal behaviour is back.

After I uninstalled Gaming Services that was not showing icon, was prompted by XBox app to install update. Then, viola MSFS 2020 update error was no more

I can not start my Sim anymore.
There comes just the startup screen and then it closes without any message or something.
Thats annoying !!
