MSFS 2024 feature/improvement summary (updated September 19 2024)

Jorg said that if you rent something, that price will be deducted from the purchase price if you decide to buy! thats awesome. I wonder if that equates to ‘rent to own’? i.e; something is $9 but $3 to rent and you rent it three times - does it automatically become yours??

Rentals are such a great idea.

renting is too expensive, i just want to fly an aircraft for a day, but if it costs half of the retail price, i wont. i am not a horder just a wanderer.

In the context of this “feature/improvement” debate here are some of the questions that cross my mind:

Is the “Rolling Cache” now a feature?

In 2020 the “Rolling Cache” feels more like a bug. It causes trouble with sim or scenery updates and most confusing of all … it reduces the performance (FPS) … e.g

Given that MSFS2024 is more-or-less “Rolling Cache only” (everything gets streamed progressively from the servers) … I really really hope that the Rolling Cache is now finally the speed booster which I always expected it to be.

Glass-in-clouds rendering?

Today there is a rendering bug which causes glass (windows) in the scenery to not be affected by clouds (atmosphere) … e.g. documented here:

Whenever I bump into this it really breaks the immersion. I hope that Asobo found a solution for MSFS2024.

“Drone roll” bug fixed?

The drone roll bug in MSFS2020 does not make a sightseeing goose like me happy. However the bug/thread was just closed (here on the forum).

I am (was?) hoping that this drone rolling will be fixed in MSFS2024 … however in one of the videos from the MSFS2024 preview event (I think it was one from NickFlightX) I had the feeling that I saw “drone roll” still in action. Hmm …

For me one of the most interesting videos about the preview was from Jeff Favignano

… as he shows a lot of 2020-vs-2024 improvements “side by side”. Really nice.

With all that said … “obviously” as a “sightseeing” goose I did already preorder MSFS2024 … impressive trees, lots of animals, “real” 3D ground surfaces and lots of new S/VTOL aircraft … etc.

MSFS 2024 will be able to stream (a lot of) add-ons without the need to install them. Does anybody know if there will be an option to disable an add-on purchased in the marketplace?

Right now I can uninstall an add-on, if I don‘t want it to be active. Maybe there are problems with it or there is a conflict with another add-on.

Also I have add-ons for airports that are enhanced in the basic version of MSFS. I would like to compare the new MSFS 2024 versions with my add-ons. For that I would have to be able to disable add-ons, I own, from streaming.

I don‘t see any problems with airplanes, but it should be possible to disable scenery and airport add-ons. I am really excited about MSFS 2024 and love the current version. Thank you!

I’ve not seen an answer to this, but I’m expecting there to be a way. If not there’s going to be a lot of upset people. The content manager screen is replaced with a new library system, so hopefully there’s a means in there to selectively enable content.

Guess so, the Marketplace presentation at this year’s FSExpo contained a screenshot of “my library” showing filters for enabled and disabled products.

Perfect! Thank you, I missed that.

We also need a toggle to turn off planes appearing parked up in airports. It kind of ruins the immersion when you are parked next to a US military UAV or a Sopwith camel.

That would be so useful to remove static aircraft from aprons especially flying on the networks such as Vatsim.
