This has got me stumped. I have been running MS2024 since its inception and never encountered this problem. When MS2024 loads to menu screen, as soon as I move the mouse to make a selection, the screen will fade to black for a few seconds and comes back again. Moving the mouse yet again will cause the same problem and son on and on.
I have tried uninstall (clean, removing all remnants of the sim), reinstalling and the problem persists. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling nvidia driver and again, no change.
The only change I did yesterday before this nonsense was install fseconomy which required a simconnect dll. I have since uninstalled that too but still the problem remains.
I had a similar issue in Flight Simulator 2020, and after various attempts, I resolved it by disabling the automatic overclocking of the GPU (underclocking via MSI Afterburner).
Hello, after a few weeks on holiday, started msfs 2024. (Beta) it did update to the latest version and started up. As soon as I had to click the start button, the screen started fading in and out. Also in windowed mode and also on a second screen. Opt out of beta, reset Nvidia settings, uninstalled and installed the sim. No success. Before trying to reinstall Windows11, can you tell which setting fixed it for you?
(Btw. Except for the screen fading, MSFS did not hang but runs normally.)
Sorry TJ - didn’t see this until now. This problem keeps returning intermittenly. I have just installed the lastest build (SU4) and immediately the problem returned. I jus tread that deleteing the rolling cache helps. So far so good. Let’s see if it returns.
You may be onto something SkyVagrant. I turned of the samsung equivalent of vsync and it seems to be working. More flights will tell me if this was the culprit but thanks for the tip!
Hi, I too have this fading in and out after loading.
As soon as the start button appears it begins to fade in and out constantly through all menus.
Sim seems to run stable throughout, even can select and launch a flight, but still fading to black regularly.
Have done all the obvious driver and graphics and cache troubleshooting and many other suggestions, but no progress.
I currently have an RTX 5090 installed, but I still had my old RTX 3090 so I swapped it back in but the problem is still there!
No idea which direction to go now, but this thread seems to be the only one where people are describing this exact ‘fading in and out’ issue, rather than the usual solid black screen type scenario.
Don’t know if there is any official recognition of this issue…
Edit- I should add that this began after the SU 4 update, never ever seen this prior to that.
I normally use vr, but not having used the sim for a while the headset was not connected.
Just for a test I decided to connect vr and launch the sim to see if the headset display did the ‘fade to black’ thing like the monitor…
I was really shocked when the vr display worked completely ok.
It was fine for many flights, so then I selected the toggle vr off in the sim and shut it down,
and when I relaunched the sim for just the monitor it was fine. no probs at all!
Launched a few more times since, and still ok!!
It makes me wonder if the sim was consistently trying to switch to vr (monitor goes dark) and then with no vr connected it comes back to monitor again, endless cycle. Until with my vr connected it broke the cycle by finding the vr.
I think when I toggled vr off in the game, it stopped the sim trying to switch to headset continuously and stopped endlessly fading. It may be that the last time I used the sim I shut it down with vr enabled, and left it thinking it should look for vr headset…?
Well all the above reasoning is just an attempt to logically work out why it was happening (a few ‘maybe’ I know), I don’t know if any other guys with the problem have used vr or not, but for me I keep my fingers crossed for now and see how it goes…
Another piece of the puzzle to hopefully finding a solution. This problem only occurs if i am outside of free flight. If I enter career mode or activities menus, the problem occurs without fail. If I bake out and go into free flight menu, all is fine.
