MSFS 2024 still no fix for CTD

Hi there

MSFS 2024 still crashes to desktop during the loading screen. I have tried the following

  1. VPN to major cities in US - no change
  2. Deleting the %appdata% folder

Observations

  1. MSFS 2024 loads different number of sim objects by each start (never all of them 1241)
  2. Starts loading world data (50-54% ok)
  3. at 55% it jumps to 77 or 79%
  4. Loads on to 77, 79, 87,88 or 90% and crashes
  5. Had this since day one

By the way in my world, crashes to desktop without any messages to the user is a sign of bad programming and an unfinished application.

COME ON Microsoft, you can do better. The lack of communication and openness of these problems are annoying. If you have a problem be open about it. Tell us a date for when we can expect the product to work as intended.
You took our money, so now deliver the product you have promised for so long or a open and honest plan for when we will get ACCESS to the sim. As as customer I think we are entiteled to know when we can start using our product.

I can understand that fixes take time, but set a deadline and INFORM us NOW !!!

I managed to solve this problem for me.

To keep this short, I end up in a situation where the sim would CTD when it reached the final screen where you had the option to select Accessibility Options or Start

After trying various things, the actual resolution was to delete my profile data from the cloud. IMPORTANT: this does delete any progress you have made like flight hours and removes any controller configs you created. I actually went through a few other steps as well, which personally I think are worth the extra effort. In my opinion I think the CTD’s I was experiencing were being caused by a corrupt/messed up profile stored on the cloud.

This is somewhat of a nuclear route to take, but I figured if the outcome was favourable and the CTD’s stopped it was worth doing, and quite frankly as the sim was so flaky for me I had not really achieved anything anyway!

I am on Windows 10, so this may be different for you may need to search (Google) equivalents to the below in some cases. The below is the way I would suggest you tackle this. Please follow this at your own risk and be aware I cannot guarantee it will work for you… but you probably do not have much to lose. I will post the guide separately…

This may not all be necessary or needed, but the idea here is to start over with MSFS 2024 to overcome persistent CTD’s for me this was occurring when I reach the screen where you can select Accessibility options or Start

I have also listed this in the order I would likely follow if I were to do this again…

Windows 10

  1. Repair and Reset the MSFS app…
    Settings > Apps >
Scroll down and find Microsoft Flight simulator 2024

Click on Advance options.
Select Repair - this only take a moment.
Select Reset - takes slightly longer, but not long.
This I believe removes/resets some local data.

  1. Next, I would suggest actually uninstalling the sim entirely. You can do this on the same screen as the last screen shot. Once you have done this, check folders where MSFS 2024 data was being stored and make sure it’s gone.

  2. The next step (and for me what stopped the CTD’s) is to delete profile/data stored on the cloud.
To do this open a Command Prompt and run as administrator.
Enter the below command (it is all on one line) and hit return…

start shell:appsFolder\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App -DeleteCloudSaves

At this point I would suggest rebooting you PC for good measure if you have not done so already.

Once you dont the above, you are ready to install MSFS 2024 again…

  1. I created a folder on another drive specifically labelled for MSFS-2024 as my install location.
  2. Open up the Xbox app got to setting, install locations and select folder you created (if you are following this step).
  3. Close the settings, find MSFS 2024 in the Xbox App then install it.

All going well once the sim has gone through the package activation and initial set-up again the sim should run and hopefully! without CTD’ing. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who tries this. I hope it helps and gets you running MSFS 2024 without the CTD’s!

This was the only thing that let me get past the loading crash.

Hi, little question if we delete the cloud profile save, the carrer is also deleted? I have also many CTD. I can’t do more 1 flight after this when i reload a mission I have a CTD.
My specs are I7 13700K RTX 4080 64Giga RAM DDR5
My Hardware are TOBII, Honeycomb Bravo and Brunner CLS Joystick.

I do not specifically know if the Career progress is wiped/reset as I had not tried that part of the sim.
The log-book is cleared so it would be logical the career would be wiped to in my opinion.

Personally, I had not flown much in 2024 so I was not worried about resetting any progress I had made, or for that matter controller profiles or other sim settings. I was happy to sacrifice that if the end result was a sim that was no longer CTD’ing.

For me the result was good. I wish I could advise this will fix most CTD issues but really I could not. I would rather start over with a sim that works though than one that is unreliable and in the long run will just frustrate me. :+1:

If it helps, I also suggested to another user wiping the cloud based data may be something to try when they had a problem with CTD’s when they had their Virpil throttle connected. Related thread linked below for reference…

spoiler - it worked for them!

• Yes, same exact issue

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• FS 2020 / Xplane 12 / P3D works perfectly on the same PC with no modification at all (no folder junction or redirect - installed default setup)
simply installed Fs 2024 on the same drive but experiencing CTD on 90% world loading
HW:
Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX (using process lasso to limit to 16 cores)
64GB RAM
RTX 4090
1 TB SSD 970 EVO

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• CTD!

For me, it seems like if I have some freeware scenery in 2020 when try to start from the same airport in 2024 it crashes.

Oh… These are my attempts to make a passenger flight on a 737 yesterday
