This is by design, and is how it works IRL as well. If, on your IRL EFB in Foreflight you select a VFR pattern for reference, that doesn’t transfer to your G1000, as it doesn’t know anything about those and those patterns are meant to be flown visually, not autopilot coupled.
In free-flight, you can update your sim plan into the world map from the EFB plan by hitting the File With ATC button on the bottom of the route page. Then you can proceed to start the flight.
