MSFS 2024 - We're gonna be OK

We’re four days in. Yes, we couldn’t load the sim on launch day, and we’ve been often getting CTDs, but I’ve been able to get four IFR flights in on the Daher over the last two days.

I’m not sure why they changed the keystrokes for many of the controls and there are a lot of differences from MSFS 2020.

But I’m confident that this will be the sim we’ve all hoped for, and my bet is sooner than it took MSFS 2020.

The Microsoft culture seems to be that you must change things between versions, even if there’s no reason to do so. I guess it’s to help differentiate a new version, but it’s frustrating to have to relearn everything each time.

This has always been the case with all Microsoft products. I even used Windows Phones while they existed and it was the case there too.

There are so many fundamental issues, even when the servers will be ok. Why is Dubai full of green trees? It looked so much better on 2020. I don’t know where the devs are even supposed to start, given so much is wrong with the current state…

There are things that show promise. Things just need to be fixed.

I have the Thrustmaster HOTAS. I can’t control the plane in the air now, but it just doesn’t recognize controls on the ground. I can’t taxi, and I can’t land right. If anyone knows how to get the Thurstmaster HOTAS to taxi correctly, let me know.

But where I live, it is currently raining and overcast, but not too far to the south, it is snowing. The sim accurately detected where I am it is raining. And there were low lying clouds on the ground. Truthfully, I haven’t ever seen 2020 render the weather as accurately. With all the low lying clouds, it was a bit turbulent as one might expect. Again, nothing I have experienced in 2020.

I have Honeycomb Alpha A and B, along with the rudder pedals. I hear people have had those work out the box, so I will try installing them (they aren’t connected to my desk, nor is the 49 inch monitor on the desk currently connected to my PC. I had unhooked a lot of things to upgrade memory and m.2 plus rearrange the monitors and the placement of the monitor arms).

I get that it was a rough couple days, but I think over time this will work out good.
