I really can’t describe how let down I am. I will not ask for a refund, because most probably all of this things will get fixed in who knows how much time, and I will not pay taxes twice (if I ask for a refund, national taxes will not be refunded).
Nevertheless, I have to say I’m completely let down by this release, and for the comments and threads I’m reading here and in the official Discord, most people are.
After the horrible tuesday release, the sim looks far away from being even a release candidate:
Streaming everything makes every step utterly slow. The whole experience is anything but smooth. Loading aircraft, liveries, the world map, everything has hiccups (and no, it’s not my internet connection of course, this has been reported by… well, everybody at some point).
Basic things do not work. The EFB is unable to find any route, it’s just a direct from A to B with some departure and arrival procedures. Fuel calculations are also off, I just ran out of fuel in three flights.
Without user consent, MSFS2020 marketplace aircraft got integrated in MSFS2024 and most of them have issues.
Native 2024 aircraft also have issues, for example the Twin Otter autopilot can’t do basic things like set a vertical speed.
For some reasons things that worked fine in 2020 now do not work in 2024. My TurtleBeach VelocityOne flightstick has a wheel for the trim. In 2020 it worked fine in analog mode, but in 2024 the only way is to have it set to digital, which renders it almost unusable (experience may vary here, for some people apparently this is fine, I can’t bear with it).
In 2020, within a day we had liveries. Now everything is encrypted.
Several integrations (like Simbrief) are plagued by hiccups
The marketplace is a placeholder for who knows what
Installed packages just say “not installed”, but well… you can’t install them
Community folder creates actually another community folder inside, and then two other folders (2020 and 2024), not explained anywhere.
All in all, almost a week after release and one hotfix patch, it’s a disastrous experience. Thanks for having Jorg saying something, but this was a) Totally predictable and b) Should be fixed by now, we’re not talking about a small dev, it’s MS, I don’t know who has more resources.
ATR is a step back in comparison to FS2020 last version.
In the middle of flight starts turning randomly, some systems have bugs, throttle calibration is at least randomic
Oh yeah, forgot to mention how my favourite turboprop -the ATR- is impossible to fly because of those things. And yes, throttle calibration is also a huge pain. You could easily add 10 other items and probably more to that list.
This isn’t even a release candidate, it’s just an open beta. Shame.
16 hours in and I still haven’t made it into a cockpit yet, let alone into the air… even worse, it seems almost impossible to start a new topic in here and there is no clear hierarchical tree and I have zero pages with “new topic” on them!
Entire system shuts down almost instantly on starting the app (not heat OR voltage-related)
12hrs gametime, half of them loading, 3 trying to find out why performance is absolutely bad on my end, 1 to setup the vary basic controls. One flying arpund randomly to see that an infinite amount of things are bugged.
Back to MSFS, did multiple flights, doesnt look worse (even better in some scenarios) and performance is like twice of what i get in FS24.
Its a horrible mess, starting all over again. Lets see where we are in two years from now…
It will be more than a year before they get these many, many issues fixed. All streaming, really? Waste of money. Switching back to FS 2020 for now so I can enjoy the holidays with a lot less stress!!!
Yes, at some point one feels that we have been cheated and we have paid for some year end bonus, because there are very basic things that do not work and one can’t understand how it could have been released in this state.
Most of the people I know only have flown career mode because it’s the only thing that partially works, because free flights are completely broken, the experience has stutters everywhere, etc.
I have to admit I feel somewhat taken for a fool when I read “The aviation experience that our trusted partner Asobo Studio created alongside other first party development teams is the best we have ever made”, with all the above things not working, not to talk about all other crashes and errors even in career mode (when you get a penalty for flaps down… while being on the ground, for example).
Sometimes I feel It would have been much better to save the money for better Christmas gifts and buy the sim in six months instead of being a forced beta tester.
I know releasing games partially broken has become a thing in the game industry, but not recognizing everything that doesn’t work is kinda a lack of respect for simmers/customers.
Free flight has been working fine for me tbh, aside from the VisionJet flights not counting in the logbook… honestly my list of annoyances is far shorter than I thought it would be. ATC breaks sometimes with live traffic is my primary one, and the Bonanza has some broken flap speeds or something because they can’t be out with any speed (literally anything over 0) atm without the overspeed pop-up. (I suspect this is why you mentioned flaps, and no that’s something specific to the bonanza as far as I can tell. No issue with any of the other aircraft I’ve flown).
Performance has been universally higher and more importantly, waaaaaaay less stuttering on my rig than 2020. EPFD for me, as someone not ever going to pay for something that has one, is extremely nice. If you mainly fly the tubes I can see how this doesn’t really feel better, but man I am enjoying 2024 a lot more than 2020 for most everything, even with the bugs (please stop using nonexistent grass strips with no pushback and tons of trees/bushes in the way for career mode lol… also the parachute missions are bugged regarding time)
Exactly the contrary on my side (and I would guess on most people considering the amount of threads showing frustration). If for you works everything of the above would be great to know how did you manage. For a free flight I’m going to mention a short list of things that do not work or are very bothering
The EFB almost never finds a route, in my experience only once. From all the times I tried, it only worked once between Vegas and Los Angeles IIRC. All the flights I’ve tried to make outside the US, the EFB never finds a route.
Selecting the aircraft is full of stutters, there are stutters for changing liveries
The EFB has errors when loading the aircraft (I’ve made a bug report and so far, it’s confirmed). You can’t properly load passengers/cargo/fuel
The EFB also has errors calculating fuel, there have been two attempts where I’ve ran out of fuel
The flight assistances do not work properly, and the flight path is always marked in the sky unless you disable them completely
The ATC has the same nuisances as always (2020) and I can’t see anything better. It still asks me things like going to FL240 when I’m about 5 miles from the airport
Performance is actually worse than 2020 on my rig
Rolling cache is broken.
If you want to leave ATC comms to AI it breaks and doesn’t stop re-filing the flight plan. I counted 8 reissues of the flightplan from AI assisted comms to ATC.
Half of the times the LIDO charts do not load properly. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.
I’m very glad your experience is good -and I’m actually surprised-, but most of the things I mentioned above have been confirmed, unfortunately (and I mean it, I wouldn’t be so frustrated)
Have no idea, I’m not flying career mode. Could be because missions are pre defined, but not sure at all. A friend of mine who’s flying career mode didn’t find significant differences in performance. Was as bad as 2020 and disabled traffic and other things to improve performance.
This is the absolute worst rollout of any software package I’ve ever seen in the last forty years. I was initially able to get 2024 working after long initial load times, then sometime a few days ago it totally broke. The loading screen stalls at 98% and will sit there for hours, meanwhile even in the background the looping video runs and pegs my NVIDIA 3080 Ti at 65% GPU on the loading screen playing a looped video and generates enough heat that I could probably keep a burger warm with it.
Repeated bug reports are met with the same inane reply that they know that there are problems, and they’re working on it. Reboot your PC, wipe something, etc. Nothing works.
I even completely removed 2024 and reinstalled it, sat through the obscene load time again, and…it hangs at 98%.
When I was able to get past the loading screen prior to a few days ago, there was a problem with the built-in ATC granting clearance, then “forgetting” it on taxi. After that, attempting to request clearance again does absolutely nothing until I exited the sim and reentered it. I got the same canned reply from tech support.
All this is after spending two hours on some technical support chat because the XBox app started giving error 0xc000005 when trying to run almost anything installed with Gamepass. I finally fixed it (at least for MSFS 2024) only after installing it on my C: drive.
(Keep in mind people having a good time probably aren’t on this forum because why would you be. It’s a sampling bias thing)
Selecting aircraft is a bit slower than 2020 because they actually render the model as you do it (FM7 style) but it doesn’t bother me. The flow of those menus is a little wack and I hope they change that a bit.
EFB wise I admittedly have not really bothered to use it outside the US, but it seemingly was working fine within the US at least.
The visual flight path thing is a bit weird but again something I don’t really mind because on my setup it’s a single button it knock it out.
Yeah ATC isn’t great, but tbh just use beyondATC and be done with it. Think of it as allowing more add-ons to be relevant lol
Rolling cache wise, no idea. I think it works for me? I’ve got it set to a 64gb cache and it seemingly loads old areas pretty darn fast. Admittedly I just haven’t had issues with streaming/loading since launch day so
Yeah the LIDO is broken, that’s been noted but I’ll be straight up, given this wasn’t a thing before at all I’m happy that it exists. Happy to give it time to be fixed, I’m not gonna pay for Jeppesen.
Performance wise I don’t know what’s up with some people’s rigs. I don’t know if people are blindly copying settings from 2020, or something else. I have noted that this iteration of the sim uses a fair bit more vram/ram. If you’ve got settings that are overrunning your hardware, yeah it’s gonna run like garbage (for obvious reasons). Pull up the debug fps thing and something like hwInfo and watch the metrics for usage. (Curious what components you have?)
You won’t get much more than the canned response for now because there is very likely no possible way to actually reply to all of them.
I’m surprised how unprepared for buginesss people are given how bad FSX is lol even after almost 2 decades… 2020 is decent now but good god the download, that was so much worse than the 1000 fps movie we got with 2024… my og 2020 install took a full day lol, had to leave the windows open to cool the room down.
