MSFS 2024 | What we know so far

But let’s be clear - per this week’s SDK stream, devs won’t HAVE to create all new LOD models and such for sceneries. It should be fully expected to just drop the same FS2020 scenery into the FS2024 Community folder or whatever and it will Just Work™. Only if the devs want to take advantage of the new biomes, new LOD system, etc. will everything have to be recreated.

And if that case, for the airports I fly into a lot, I will likely happily pay an upgrade fee or buy again for the better performance and visuals that will come as part of the FS2024 rewrite.

I see this requirement to improve performance of 2020 era sceneries, and planes, as a kind of sieve. The better developers will take their time to improve existing products for use in the new sim.

It was also interesting to hear in the SDK Q&A that if developers want to have a product for 2024, they can’t back port it to 2020. So they either have to develop a version for each sim, with the 2024 version having LOD improvements, new systems etc. or a single version that just happens to work on 2024 with perhaps none of the improvements.

Again, a filter of sorts.

Hm, no bugs … I’m afraid no money in the world can buy us a trip to Utopia

that is exactly what it is, and it is sound strategy, one that should have been implemented since the beginning
most of the problems we have and complain about, have their origins in the data being too big
and (sometimes) it doesnt need to be
the sim should put a cap on unnecesary complexity of objects to prevent some developer using 5 trillion polygons on a door knob

now, we will have that cap
it is the right move

Ha … What goes around comes around :joy:

Hopefully he will not speak to your parents

Sorry, I just could not resist :+1:

From Dev Q@A New wear and tear system

The new system wear and tear affect the ground handling…

Yep. They don’t Have to… But then again, you’re probably not going to want to fly anywhere near NYC if you have any (complex) scenery that hasn’t been updated appropriately…

sigh…
They did :flushed:

What so many duplicates or very similar variants of planes in the making?

ifly 737- max
Pmdg 737 max
Asobo 737max

Pmdg 777 lr &er

I’m could list others too. But there’s many planes non existent that get pushed back until multiple people make the same thing. Whyyyyyyyy

PMDG 737 MAX is on hold currently, per the update from Robert last night on the PMDG forums. The 777F is next, due by the end of the month currently, and the -200LR by the end of the year if I recall correctly. The -200ER will be evaluated after the above, and after PMDG evaluates FS2024 and how it affects their product line.

Still none the less 3 MAX in the works. Not a huge difference between ER and LR. Imo should’ve released all 3 777 variants at once in a 777 package. Resources would be better spent in expediting the 747-400, which would be great to have, vs launching ever so different 777’s. Or they could also bring their DC6 over to xbox marketplace too

I’m sure Robert will appreciate you telling him how to run PMDG, but this isn’t the right place for that. But fortunately, you as the customer are free to buy any aircraft you want, and don’t buy the ones you don’t.

As MSFS2020 will still be supported and this forum will still need to be used for that purpose, I’m guessing that MSFS2024 will be getting its own forum and not just a sub-section of this one?

Indeed. And the poor community management staff will have their hands full for months if not longer moving posts and threads around to the correct sections thereafter.

The US does not have the most airports of the world. While it has the most per capita - which makes totally sense, it being a developed industrial nation in the 20th century, AND considering its geography, low population density in large parts, lack of extensive railway networks etc. - it has about one third of the world‘s airport, which is not „the most“.

Interesting btw. that the country with the second hightest number of airports in the world is Brazil. Which again makes sense, considering how difficult access to many regions is by land, compared to by air. European countries have much fewer airports per capita in comparison. While on a comparable GDP per capita level to the US, they are much denser populated and have extensive and dense railway and road networks, which work well over the relatively short distances. Also GA flying is much more regulated and restricted in Europe, which is good, considering how annoying it would be, if everybody were flying his noisy small airplanes over the densely populated areas there.

20,000+ registered airports, 15,000+ of which are officially recognized by the CIA world book (which defines them as something that looks like an airstrip from satellite pics - many private strips don’t get recognized) out of ~45,000 (also officially recognized) in the world. So, ~1/3 of the world’s airports, by that measure. I should have known this would get dragged and probably should have been more pedantic by saying “compared to any single other region, continent, country, etc.” There are other ways to break this down - active; paved, marked runways (which is more to my point); public airports; general aviation, etc. And that’s before you get to the sheer number of runways. And how many, comparatively, in the sim?

The point is there are a LOT of airports in the sim that are not correctly regionated to local standards, including outside of the US. And again, if someone from Brazil came in and said “hey, our 4,000+ airports look wrong,” I’d support them 100% in getting them fixed. But I speak for the US because the experience I have and the certificates (including instruction) I hold have that country’s name printed on them - I cannot speak with authority on any other. But most people either don’t know, don’t notice, or don’t care. I’m trying to bring attention by showing that a metric, nope, imperial mudton of airports are wrong in the sim.

But back to the point, this affects shorter, paved runways more than anything else. And there are a lot of them here. Why drag the fact that the country with the most airports of any other singular country or region and a preponderance of short, paved runways, contain some pretty big errors that seem like they’d be a really easy fix? Instead of coming back with “but actually,” (crabs in the pot analogy goes here) why not say “hey, this (other) country can also be fixed by…” Next time I’ll be sure to be more specific about the massive amount of accessible, public, paved GA airports we have.

Anybody want to speak to why it’s a good idea for the bog-standard markings in the sim to remain incorrect across vast regions with other standards?

Anybody want to constructively advocate for fixing their country/region?

Any more crabs in the pot?

So no Discovery videos ?
It feels like we have so few informations…and, to me, it looks like nothing is finalized and so can’t be in extenso shown…
They are probably rushing to the deadline…

I suspect you might be correct and they’re doing all they can to avoid FS2024 being delayed until 2025.

That wouldn’t be a major biggy for me, but mega-embarrassing for MS.

Would they really do this given that they have already taken a lot of preorders?

Just a genuine question here. Nothing else :slightly_smiling_face:

There is no way to delay the release. The base program must have been finished before taking orders and now it is only about adding features and bugfixing.

And if one feature is not ready at release they will add it later. Same for bugs that need fixing.

But the release date is is set and will not be delayed.
