MSFS barely any GPU usage/ extreme stuttering

Virtuel Memory is 32768 (same as RAM, Upper and Lower Limit) on de System SSD, and non on the other ones. Will post a screenshot immediately

looks sufficent  … may be the stutters starts if the game begin to use more intensive the pagefile.
You can open the Taskmanager → Details Tab → right click on a colum heading → choose colum “paged pool” ( not sure about the english word: “Ausgelagerter Pool” ). Then you see the usage of pagfile per app and can check whether msfs use a lot. ( its only the pages, but should give a hint )

Thanks man, will check after the weekend

ive the exact same problem with the performance. a few months ago, i could play the sim with the same graphic settings with very smooth 50 - 60 fps and now its always stuttering and after a while it gets more bad untill ive 15 fps at camera movement and hard stutterings…

i hope theres any solution soon.

So i was to curious and I had to test it tonight (will be a tired last workday tomorrow).

So same szenario, flying in Switzerland, RAM usage below 10 GB (of the Sim), 4K Ultra:
grafik
I tired that even with Object LOD 400, and I could stay in the high 40 FPS, no problem with locking to 30 FPS…

So I flew around a little bit, looking for some “high RAM” usage spots, and see there, RAM usage of the Sim was about 11.5 GB, GPU was chilling and cooling down, I even tried to set the Object LOD to 100, with no change:
grafik

Then I flew away, to an area where less RAM was used, and frames get better and better.

pagefile usage from the sim was betwenn 3.000 and 3700 kb, so nothing.

A clean reinstall of windows from an ISO file will probably fix your problem, it did for me and several others with the same problem.

may be the size of used memory trick us here a bit… looks like things around the manipulator …

As @Ixoye56 mentioned some users reported windows reinstall will help. I’am not happy about these solution, because these mean we not found the real culprit, but at least is an option.

Other example:

If windows reset helps, it might be somekind of strange windows issue ( I assume not ) or some kind of files become corrupt or just outdated. May be try the resets of shadercaches, also the SceneryCaches/index/dce/ … files, etc… Its of course a guess, but may better than re-installing windows.

But that’s what I did 4 days ago )so a complete reinstall, including formatting my SSD’s) :open_mouth:

and it didn´t help right? or is that the real solution for the problem? :grimacing:

ive found something out. yesterday, ive played with a friend shared cockpit by your controls. my friend started the server and we flew on exact same settings. i was co-pilot and had NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES. i mean “W T F”. and i played the game now 1 hour ago. exact same problem again, when i play it alone… that performance issue is absolute disgusting .

Correct, it didn’t help

I had the same problem. After testing all the suggestions out there (tweaking settings and NVIDIA control, etc) I believe I have a solution that works well.
I see you have a NVIDIA RTX card. Although not selected automatically in Options/Graphics, I have selected the following with HIGH END and now enjoy 30fps (max in NVIDIA Control/3D/MSFS) and smooth. Flying over New York it did drop to 20fps, but recovered quickly. I tried ULTRA, but this resulted in a 4-5 fps loss, and the difference was not noticeable. Good luck!

How are you getting DLSS to work whilst using DX11?

why not ? … dlss is not dxr ( raytracing )

It is only the frame generation feature of DLSS than needs DX12 to work. Even then, frame generation works with either DLSS, DLAA or TAA.

I think it is very relevant. Updates and time should result in progress and a more stable game.
The past year has been a complete downward spiral for MSFS with regards to both visuals and performance.

It’s at a point where it’s simply not worth it. I know of 3 very avid simmers besides myself, who has simply opted out of it for now.

oh man, I needed to re-read my post from januar 22 ( more than year ago )

What I wrote is still valid for me… if users set all settings, incl. LOD , to the maximum, then no wonder that the hardware struggle to delivery constant high fps. We can also often not compare “a year ago” because there are in meanwhile new kind of settings implemented, which the users have enabled ( e.g. dlss, etc ). So, what I wanted to say was: that we need infos about what the users had currently for settings, so that we can check what happens on it system. Gef.Exp Auto-Optimize is allways like a random-game and there are also other things changed on the system, e.g. windows updates, drivers. That we can also see that for the OP it helped to completly clean( reinstall ) windows. Or in the other current case, where lots of users have problems with newer nvidia drivers ( the problem started with the new driver ).

On my system I see nothing like a " downward spiral for MSFS with regards to both visuals and performance ". In special with DLSS+DLAA the AA artifacts are gone , the performance is mostly what I expect, and I have a stable running game. Of course, there are lots of open-points, but for me its not so worst as some users describe it ( but thats just my opionin only ).

@CaptainLHKLM is it still valid that this fixed it for you ?

then the topic can marked with a solution tag, because it was then the fix

good for you, but since many, me included, can’t share your opinion, especially the graphic ones… here’s the problem, every now and then an update, for me it was SU12, cripples the sim, SAME Hardware, SAME Win11, SAME amd driver (or even the newest one), SAME ingame settings, very different FPS, it went from 40-50fps to a general 15-25fps, no matter the ingamesettingm NO matter the flightlevel or airport, heck even 720p or 4k doesn’t change a thing. Yes, point’s towards CPU bottleneck BUT, how did it work before then?
At times “highly” polulated servers does the rest. (sometimes with the obligatory “you bandwith is too low” message.)

not sure what you mean with “good for you”

I asked the topic-OP whether the solution he descriped " reinstalled windows " is a permanent fix for him. If yes, “this” bug report can be marked with a solution marker, in special because this topic is very old.

But I noticed in meanwhile the OP was last time online more than a year ago. Thus the currently 10 users which had the same problem as the OP reported, get possible never a final answer.

To your image I have only the TLOD in mind. But beside of the CPU is in you case also the GPU in trouble and I assume you stress your system to much in special in 4K. Related to 720p I cant say mutch, may be again the CPU limits. “Low Bandwith” is not part of this topic here, but yes… that can have possible an effect.
