The instantaneous flicker between Mainthread and GPU limited is astonishing! Although I don’t run a 3090 (currently running a 3070) or the newest i9 (currently the 5600x) the presumed bottleneck between the two is wild. I’m not complaining because my sim runs perfectly fine on Ultra and 1440. Just wondering what kind of advances AMD, Intel, or NVIDIA are going to have to make to have the most uber realistic sim possible. ![]()
No good in making better hardware when the software currently is not in its prime shape. Flight sims in general have been demanding to run for years even on the latest and greatest hardware unlike others games that have way less stuff to render.
I have hope its going to get better overtime.
I remember when FSX came out and it was hailed as the best flight sim ever and while it had a modest system requirements, the higher end of the graphics settings even made the beefiest systems at the time chug a lug. I threw fits because my computer wasn’t good enough to run it at the lowest settings lol
Yeah, all of the above.
I will add that I remember early on when it was said that the hardware required to run this simulator at full potential hasn’t been developed yet. Then if you consider that the sim itself hasn’t been fully developed yet…then boom!
I run a 3090, a 5950X, M2 and a 128GB of memory and can make the same thing happen.
I don’t believe the issue is completely on the hardware spec side, but rather the sim heavily utilizing / favouring 1 thread for the bulk of the work versus spreading more of it out across the available threads.
Thats the exact reason I went from my 3700x to the 5600X because of the single core usage. If they designed it to run multicore efficiently, things would be exponentially smoother. 3 of my cores are hardly doing anything!
The game uses many threads which does make it fairly multi-core efficient already. If you were to run this sim on a beefy single-core CPU, it would be unplayable. I’m not a game developer but I can imagine the complexity involved in a game/sim of this nature.
My 10700 3080 isn’t enough to fly in dense city areas without stutters, low fps and bad jaggies in VR. Reducing settings right down to low gets same results.
Im totally CPU bound. Nothing but nothing helps this issue. It’s definitely MSFS only utilizing single core. Apparently going to DX12 and DLSS will open up multi-cores improving performance considerably
Hopefully DX12 incorporates multi core, but the beta has been having a multitude of issues. My core #4 is the one taxed big time. Although I run Vsync limited to 60fps, it took care of stutters and tearing. I’m running ultra settings 1440 also. I usually fly KBOS, KLGA, KJFK, KDCA, and other larger cities but the one I always get a few stutters at is KLAX. This program is so dense, I feel it’s always going to be a hardware catch up scenario.
Ha! I prefer the term, “Arms Race.” ![]()
I went from a 5+ year old CPU / Mobo / RAM (added a RTX 2070 Super to it) to a brand new top of the line AMD setup. It’s funny to look at the resource monitor while MSFS is running. NOW my GPU is huffin’ and puffin up near 70-80%, and the CPU and (lol 128GB of RAM)? They’re still in bed, wondering what this minor inconvenience is.
The game looks absolutely GORGEOUS now that I can crank up the settings. I’m “only” at 3840x1080 (x2) but at 50, I don’t need more resolution. I need to see the stuff I’ve got!
No it isn’t only utilizing a single core. You apparently skimmed over my comment about this game being unplayable on a single-core CPU. You also apparently missed the developers own comments about these issues. DX12 will not magically bring multicore improvements. The bottleneck issues with this sim aren’t even related to the graphics renderer.
I did read what you posted. You say it, but you do not explain. I said “utilize”. I realize other cores are in use but not fully utilized.
I’m hearing and reading improvements with cpu if DLSS and DX12 are implemented. Perhaps I’m getting this wrong.
Please explain further, thx.
