MSFS keeps losing my settings, say I need an Essential Updates package

Out of the blue yesterday the game told me I needed to download an essential updates package, and along with that it was showing me user settings that are different from what I normally use. Couldn’t figure it out, so I did a complete reinstall overnight.

I log back in this morning, all looks good for a while, and then all of a sudden it’s doing it again - reverting to old settings and telling me I need to download a essential update package. The heck is going on?

This sounds a lot like this.
You could try it and see if it helps.

I tried that last night and it didn’t work.

I logged out of the Xbox app and finally got the game to launch, but now I’m seeing the spinning circle on the lower right-hand screen.

That’s been reported by a few folks lately.

and

There may be some help in those.

Nope, it’s still thinking I’m logging into the game for the first time. This is the first screen I see once I’m now past the spinning circle:

And then it shows me the setup screens for controls, data streaming options, etc.

There is no reason for this. It makes no sense. I get to the main screen and now it shows this:

I tried deleting the wgs folder per the zendesk link and it didn’t work.

Over and over again it keeps thinking I’m logged out of the game.

When I try to launch through the MS Store, this is what I see:

Still going around in circles - now it says I once again have to download a 160 GB mandatory update.

This outright ■■■■■■■ me off at this point. I have changed NOTHING with my game since yesterday, and now I cannot play it.

The only other fix I’ve seen here, was one instance where a re-install worked.

Yes, I ended up reinstalling and now all is good. Glad that is over with!

The same thing happened to me this morning, but I was able to fix it using the solution posted by FiZZL3Z in this post:

I went to task manager->serices->open services, found all “xbox” titled services, went to their properties and made them automatic. Then I rebooted the computer, and all my settings were restored and the game loaded normally.
