Whatever you do do NOT tweak anything in PowerShellā¦ I followed someones advice in here and my practically brand new $2k desktop completely crashed and burnedā¦ on start up I now get the infamous blue screen with the Stop Code: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIEDā¦ taking my computer to my local pc repair guy and hopefully he can save itā¦
You have to read CAREFULLY.
You have problem with msfs and Windows 10 not gaming services so DO NOT TOUCH POWERSHELL.
Powershell fix wasnāt intendet for you
Next time, think twice.
What did you actually run?
I seem to have got it working again for me at least.
Completely uninstalled MSFS, reset the ms store, reset the gaming services - this by itself did not work as now it refused to install MSFS again.
So did the following from Xbox troubleshooting ;
- Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
3.get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers*
- In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
5.start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN*
- Install the app on that page, and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
- Restart your device, and try to install the game again.
Then was the long wait for the download, Iām glad I have unlimited fibre internet and went to bed while it reinstalled. I have the game open right now and I am reinstalling all the extra content packages.
I agree with your statement.
But the problem with downloading updates goes back almost 2 years.
It is about time for Microsoft and ASOBO to fix the update issue which many people have been experiencing and spending hours trying to find a solution.
I have been a Beta tester twice and in general had no problems with the downloads except loosing my accumulated data and flying hours.
But this time I also could not download the update and spend hours following advise from Microsoft/Asobo and people online without any results.
After investigating further it had something to do with Xbox gaming services which I found hard to believe because I uninstalled it a month ago. Only fix was to re-install it and untick the insider selection. Then it downloaded the update and all is working.
Like I said this one belongs to Microsoft/Asobo please fix your update problems once and for all.
Thank You
you may remember me from mid may. this issue has once poped up again so im retrying again.
Thanks again for your help @TenPatrol
Unfortunately Iām not a programmer or windows specialist and canāt handle that kind of installation.
My computer is also the one for the business I run and canāt afford to crash it doing something wrong.
I am then stuck with this game, because of Microsoft defaults that I am not the only one to encounterā¦
Some other games/players have the same problem with Gaming Services. See on various forum and redditā¦
Why the Hā¦ MFS2020 team decided to go through Microsoft Store AND XBox to launch a game !!!
This generates more problems than anything else. Donāt even have a .exe launcher like any other game/software.
I will try again later, hoping that this will be solved in a coming update.
A shame as I fly planes in real life and used MFS2020 to prepare flights and get used to know the C172 G1000 which is the new plane I fly.
Best regards
Update system via windows update - also check optional updates.
Reset ms store app
System settings > apps
Click microsoft store app > advanced options
Scroll down and click reset
If itās your business machine I assume you take regular backups for disaster recovery? Acronis are pretty good for that.
Also windows image backup.
will the MS store for gaming service be better in windows 11 ?
or remain basically as it is
After a month of not being able to load the game my patience has run out.
I have deleted the suggested reg entries. I have tried the reset of the Microsoft store. I have tried about everything I have seen posted here that āworkedā for others. I have made all available windows updates to date.
All I can think of now is to reinstall windows and start over again. But I fear not only losing my logbook stats, but will a reinstall solve anything or leave me stuck in the same situation?
How many of you are still locked out of MSFS? Where do I go from here?
Have you tried reinstalling MS Store via powershell? At this point that may be your best bet and has helped others in with the same problem over on the MSFS discord.
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I did try that route as well. There were so many different workarounds it has become a little confusing. LOL
A quick update to my situation: yesterday I did a āresetā of windows 10. It then updated the gaming services app in the Microsoft store. However, it still failed to complete the installation of the update. Fortunately though it gave me a different code (0x80073D02).
I did a quick search of that code online and tried the recommended fix of using the app reset in the settings menu. Then went back to the store, ran the update, and it finally installed. I then downloaded the simulator and all the updates again. After a couple hours of that the sim loaded just fine. The final step for me was to create a system restore point after exiting the Sim. Been too busy today to see if it still works!
Thanks again for the response.

Microsoft Store opens Gaming Services page:
If MS Store keeps redirecting you to Gaming Services when you try to launch or update MSFS , carefully follow these instructions to try and fix the issue:
- Close MSFS & MS Store
- Open Registry Editor (regedit) as administrator
- In the panel on the left, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ā SYSTEM ā CurrentControlSet ā Services
- Carefully remove the GamingServices and GamingServices.Net items
- Restart Computer
- Go to MS Store ā 3-dot-menu on the right ā Downloads and Updates ā Check updates and install the update to Gaming Services (you may need to click on Gaming Services to force a check for updates)
- Try to launch MSFS again
