I saw one developer charging almost the same amount for an upgrade to their 2024 version as I paid for their 2020 version. And I saw nothing in their 2024 offering that looked like it warranted that price. Seeing how different developers handle this upgrade process really gives me insight into these companies.
I started on XBox. Frankly this was my first simulator I spent any time in (I had bought the original Flight Simulator back in 1982, but never found any interest in flying around polygons). So I had made a bad choice, I purchased one of the planes from one of the questionable developers, not knowing any better.
I never use that plane. I would gladly divest myself of a digital license to it if I could. But yesterday, they did a 2024 version for an upgrade price of $16.99. That is ridiculous. I’m sure all they did was recompile with the new SDK. But now everytime I start the sim, I get pop up messages telling me that the plane has an upgrade. I’m not going to pay $16.99 just to make the messages stop popping up. But I am sure they will get some people who will just so that they can get rid of the pop up messages. $16.99 is paying for the whole plane all over again. It wasn’t worth it the first time.
I added to the wish list item to be able to get rid of Upgrade notifications if you so choose. I don’t want to be hounded everytime I log in. And truthfully, they are trying to capitalize on people not wanting to be harrassed with upgrade messages.
'In June 2023, Microsoft addressed concerns about third-party add-on compatibility with the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024). They stated that, with very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS 2020) would continue to function in MSFS 2024. Additionally, add-ons purchased from the in-simulator Marketplace would not need to be repurchased in MSFS 2024"
Dont think this statement is true, not that I personally believed it, at the time. Most of my addons are not compatible in the Market place I have purchased or had to pay an upgrade. Trust goes a long way.
I personally will never purchase anything from the Marketplace. They knew it was a captive market.
I have not got an issue for paying for an upgrade, however honesty and respect be transparent for the customer is very important to me. VALUES I believe in.
That’s interesting. Do you remember when and where they said that? Their Palm Springs and Ibiza airport upgrades are also the same price in the 2024 Marketplace.
Palm Springs and Ibiza were their first airports that they did the premium enhancement to. Both of those through their store were $4.99. I have the email from IniBuilds where they announced the upgrades.
I bought Ibiza for 2020, and I am not going to pay again for the 2024 upgrade. I also paid for Edinburgh in 2020 but it has dissapeared in Marketplace. Oh yes!, there is Edinburgh V2 (+20€).
WHAT JOKE IS THIS?
Still waiting for my FlyTampa KLAS to show up as well. I have my FlyTampa KBOS but Vegas is no where to be seen in 2024.
I am fairly newbie regarding add-on planes. I bought some that I liked for fs2020. Yesterday I bought one I do not like. For sure it’s my fault, I should not have clicked Buy by impulse, but I just discovered that there is no option for Returns, like in Steam or major general software sellers, etc. Crazy!
Whatever the reasoning behind this, one thing I will tell you, MS: I will not buy any or not as many add-ons from you! I will be very hesitant to click the button!
Your loss…
Even before 2024 Orbx did that with London CITY (EGLC). They released a V2 product with the up to date taxi way. I bought the UK2000 scenery instead.
I bought Pheonix in 2020 marketplace and up until yesterday is was unavailable then suddely there was a free upgrade for it to 2024, happily surprised.
