The external GPUs don’t run in multi-GPU mode with the internals SLI style. The external replaces the internal GPUs when you need that horsepower. When you’re not connected to the external, it’s the same as laptops have been for years. It uses the integrated GPU for low power workloads to be easy on battery, and kicks in the dedcated when you need more horsepower.
